Hi Sweta,
sorry to be blunt, but with your profile (bachelor, no working experience) you won't be accepted in the top MBA programs anyways.
What about finishing your studies, working for a couple of years and then think about an MBA? I think that's a better idea!

Hi,
I'm a software professional with 5 yrs of work experience. I would like to do MBA, but I'm confused about various options avaliable. Is it good to do 1 yr MBA course. I'm working on L1 visa on US. What about professional MBA (part time)? If I do professional MBA, would I be eligible to apply for H1 visa under students quota. Please let me know.

Hi priya,
I would say that it doesn't make such a difference afterwards which type of an MBA you did, 1-year full-time or part-time. Other aspects are a lot more important, such as name and reputation of the B school, and the networking you manage to do during your studies, business contacts, and job prospects.
The question which type of MBA has a lot more to do with your financial capacity - part time option helps if you don't have enough cash right now to finance you MBA.... Many students are in this case of course, since it is a big investment to do an MBA.
This is just my point of view.

Thanks a lot for your response. I know that students doing full time MBA are eligible for getting H1B visa under students quota. Will I be eligible for applying H1B visa under students quota if I do part time MBA? Please let me know.
Should I also appear for GMAT and TOFFEL exams even for part time MBA programs?

A part-time MBA is a regular MBA, the admission procedure will the similar as for a full-time MBA, and not be affected by the question of length and intensity of the program. In general, in the US you'll have to present your GMAT as TOEFEL results for your application.
But you should check every program indivually to get a clear picture about the application requirements. Every school has it's owen way.
As for your visa questions, I don't know those details. I'm afraid I can't help you here.

The general perception I have encountered is that a part-time MBA is less valuable than a full time MBA. The MBA is such a powerful degree because of the transformative effect of 1 to 2 years of intensive study. A strong program's full time MBA is so demanding that it leaves little room for anything else. For example, I had to drop a position on the Board of a charity I support during my MBA.

I agree with Post MBA that it is better to fully concentrate on your MBA. Also, even if your degree will not tell whether you have completed you MBA part-time or full time, it will be difficult to disguise that you did not earn your MBA by full-time study as most employers will know the regular duration of the MBA programs.

Hi!
Sorry for asking such an open question but I'm begining to look for a MBA program and I'm definitely lost.
I have decided to study a 1-year program in Chicago (2008-2009) but I don't know which schools are best, how much years of working experience are required, which are the most expensive ones...Can anybody help me? I'd really appreciate that!
For the record, I would be a foreign student, I don't know if that matters at all to apply to one these schools...

Chicago GSB is the best business school in Chicago, but as far as I know they do not have a 1 year MBA. If you have already "decided" to do a 1-year MBA program in Chicago, please let me know which schools actually offer such a program?
...how much years of working experience are required, which are the most expensive ones...
I think 99 % per cent of the US business schools provide this information on their websites.

Many people on these boards confuse 1 yr Executive MBAs with regular MBAs.
In my opinion the best regular 1 yr MBA which you can get into with 2 years of work experience, is the University of Florida.

another confused sole here...
I am looking for a one-year program, not EMBA but full time.
I have about 4-5 years of working experience and I an not young... (36). I am looking for a good value for money, so it doesn't have to be top tire school. for me the sheer time spent in a US university learning in English would mean a lot back home.
and since i come from a worm country I would prefer the west coast, but that's just me...
thank you for any thought you might have!

In this case definitely Univ of Florida 1 yr program. Best Value for the $ in the USA. You can rent comfortably for $500 a month in Gainesville and tuition is the lowest amongst the top 50 programs.

With good GPA and GMAT you have chances to be accepted in the best programs. Although two years of work experience is not very much, you should check on the website of each program if that's ok or they require more.
Is it an MBA with specialization in IT what you look for?
One of the top MBAs in IT is at NYU- Leonard N. Stern. I think in NY Hofstra University is worth it too.
There is a long list of other good MBAs in that field, but I'm not a specialist at all - I can only give you some general info from rankings and other general sources.
Maybe someone else can help?

In terms of 1 yr MBA program, MIT has a program called sloan fellow. The minimum experience required for this one is 10 years and you can either get a sloan fellow or an MBA. You don't need GMAT for this one. The programs is expensive and costs about $90K. I am doing my Executive MBA in Ross School of Business. It does not require GMAT. It is a 21 month program with 5 semesters (each semester with 2 terms). The program is very rigorous.
