Information about MBA programmes at these Germany b-schools

zubie

Hi. I am new to this forum and wanted to know if anyone can give me an idea about the following German business schools - for MBA programmes. I would like to know whether they are good schools, accredited - and not bogus i.e. they are actual schools from which students DO graduate with MBA's.

I'd be grateful for any information you could give me. Thanks.

University of Applied Sciences Stralsund
University of Applied Sciences Bremen
Furtwangen University
University of Applied Sciences Würzburg - Schweinfurt
University of Applied Sciences OffenburgInstitute of Management, Berlin

Hi,

Germany isn't renowned for the quality of its MBA programmes. Of all the institutions that you have listed, only two come up on the find-mba-database:

http://www.find-mba.com/germany
http://www.find-mba.com/university/713/fachhochschule-stralsund-university-of-applied-sciences

If you look at the top ranking European schools (Financial Times Ranking 2007), then the top German schools are:
-ESCP-EAP European School of Management, which comes 4th.
-Mannheim Business School, which ranks 15th.
-University of Cologne, Faculty of Management, which ranks 33rd.

These schools actually all in the database, check again!

I agree with lukeh that Germany is not as renowned for its MBA programs as for example the UK, the Netherlands or Spain, but they have plenty of solid MBA programs. From your list I would take a closer look at the programs offered at Berlin, Bremen, Mannheim and Cologne, the other schools are not as interesting location wise (quality of life, business environment etc.).

Hi there,

I have to say that the institutions you mentioned ar not first choice in Germany. They are Fachhochschulen which will never have a chance to compete in the international MBA market. When you look for a top program in Germany, Mannheim or WHU are the best choices.

Best,
JL

Hi,
Please could you give me some information on Goethe Business School-Frankfurt. This is the first year for their full-time MBA. Any insights on the program and their career services ? Also, how would you rate GISMA, HHL and Goethe ?

I am planning to apply for the 2009 intake (General MBA). Your suggestions would be very helpful. I have three years of work exp in the IT-industry.

Thanks in advance.

HHL and Goethe are both good schools; career service at HHL seemes to be more active.
GISMA also used to be ok but they have some problems now as I've heard (e.g. closing programs several weeks before they should have started or smth like that).

I wouldn't use consultants. They try to sell you something an get paid by the business schools they recommend.

Do your own research. There's a brand new website called google, which is quite useful. Google directed me to this site explaining what GMAT means:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graduate_Management_Admission_Test

as far as i've known, yes!
I did know one in Nuernberg! but you should keep searching yourself...

Hiring a consultant may save your time, but it does not me you would get your best choices!

Hi Preeta,

I would imagine most students who exceed their criteria will get admitted: http://www.hs-furtwangen.de/fachbereiche/w/english/c_mba/admission/?tg=0

Take a read through this, and then come back with some more specific questions. http://www.find-mba.com/university/1527/hochschule-furtwangen/discussions

@ Duncan

Hello !!
Thanks for the reply. I had already gone through this earlier. Well the minimum criteria is stated there. But at the same time it is mentioned that the class sizes are of 15 only. So that is my concern. The criteria they have mentioned is pretty ordinary. So if the school is good there must be lot of competition.
Now what I want to know is the school good enough or is it easy to get through as there will not be too many applicants applying to this school.
I also did complete the pre-application evaluation form. But they suggested to do try again next year because this year's admission is already closed and they have not yet started evaluating profiles for next year.

Their reply was this
"We are sorry to inform you that may not be admitted to the MBA Program starting this September. The programme is already complete.

We encourage you to apply again next year should you still be interested and have passed a TOEFL or IELTS. Please contact us again early next year in order to receive a new and updated application form.

Once again thank you for applying and good luck with your future endeavors!"
