Just read that Stanford decided not to open a New York City based campus. Apparently, they were in negotiations with the city, but there were to many land use, zoning, and fee issues to content with (it is New York, after all.)
Too bad, because I think that a Stanford campus on the east coast could have been a good thing - and created more competition for top-ranked schools in NYC.

Cornell won the competition instead. So there was always going to be a new university in the city.
