I heard that in some rankings that nyu was ranked higher than Columbia. Is that true?

Columbia will ALWAYS be better than NYU.. its Ivy League, its as simple as that. (I am talking about repuation not about quality!)

Following your logic, Cornell and Yale's MBA programs should *ALWAYS* be better (vis-a-vis rankings) than NYU, since they are "Ivy League". This is NOT the case. Check out the US News & Business Week rankings for details.

yes, it is true that NYU(stern) MBA program is ranked higher by the Economist: NYU ranked 8 - Columbia at 21

as far as i see, in all the other major MBA rankings it is not the case:

Financial times: NYU 13, Columbia 3
Wall street J: NYU 22, Columbia 6
Forbes: NYU 11, Columbia 6

That being said, it is obvious that both are top Business schools, with great, highly reputed MBA programs. both of them would be a great choice for an MBA.

I think Jason is RIGHT. With hehni's logic you could also claim that the reputation of Brown University (Ivy League) is better than that of Stanford (not Ivy League), which is obviously not the case (most people don't even know Brown University).

I don't really think that in a case of an MBA program the "Ivy League" status makes that much of a difference(especially out of the USA) - Rankings and accreditation are the only true way to asses the reputation of any MBA program world wide.
