Aplpied to CBS and Stern

JJGG

I applied to CBS ED on 10-5-08 and NYU Stern FT on 10-20-08
Does anyone know when I could realistically find out about status? I know the website says 10 weeks for CBS and Feb 15th for NYU. Anyone been admitted or rejected yet?

Thanks,

I think this is different for everyone, depending on how strong your application is. I read some people were notified by CBS in November.

What's your status for NYU (https://applicant.stern.nyu.edu/statuscheck/default2.asp)?

Also,
I was considering applying to Wharton, but I figured my background isn't strong enough and it would be a waste of time, but now I am thinking I could hedge my bets if NYU and CBS don't pan out. Here is my background:
GPA 3.18
GMAT 690 (even math and verbal)
State School (low prestige) Mech Eng BS
5 years experience
consultant 3 years
sales rep (chemical) 2 years (highly succesful)
tri-lingual french+english+other
dual non-US citizenship + legal resident of US
Should I bother applying to Wharton or just save my $250 and pray for the best?

Update: Rejected today from CBS. I am sour and I am thinking maybe the big name MBA is not in my future.

Ah, shucks! Did they give you any reason as to why? If not, you probably could get them to tell you. Tedious and painful, I know, but probably worth it, as with that information you can at least then set about addressing the issue in question. It may well be that a big name MBA isn't out of the question, just that it's not something you can expect at the moment. Having said that, I wouldn't take one rejection as symptomatic of your whole situation - there are so many variables when it comes to admissions - and you may sail in to somewhere else. And there's still Stern to come, right?

guys,

When do you think I will find out about Stern. I applied in mid October and I know they have until February but I was wondering if anyone had already been given a response? And also is the longer it takes the better, worse or no corrolation?

Thanks all.

In my experience, the length of time it takes has very little relevance to the eventual outcome. Its a simple fact that when there're loads of applicants it takes a long time to sift through them all, get rid of some straight away, draw up a long list, a shortlist, etc. etc. Also, all academic institutions are bedevilled by a certain amount of inefficiency. Mid October really isn't very long ago - I applied for a Fellowship back in September and don't expect to hear back until April 2009! Having said that, when I applied to do my BA I was sent a letter offering me a place within the week, a good six months before anyone else was offered a place. So maybe one or two phenomenally outstanding candidates will already know. The vast majority, however, will be just as in the dark as you are. Hang in there.

One other word of advice: If you're thinking that you need to know asap because you're contemplating applying somewhere else as well, don't wait around - just do it. Its always good to operate some kind of egg/basket distribution system, and you can always turn 'em down.
