Hey friends!!
M new here nd I must say u r doing a gr8 job !!

Here is a bit abt me:-
I am an engineer and have been working in an International MNC for past 2.5 years now as a SAP consultant. Also I am involved as a business development manager for past 1 year in a start up in education industry.. I have decent acads and strong Extra currics....

I have a GMAT of 720 and TOEFL iBT of 107 (both taken In NOV 09)

I am looking at MBA options in UK ( am I late ??) .. Also Is my work ex on the lower side for UK ?

I was looking at Strathclyde uni MBA, but the cost (21K GBP) is way beyond my reach. Can you suggest me other good colleges based on my profile ???

Also will it be wise to take the Msc In Business and Managment in strathclyde and then use the option of converting it into an MBA .. I think only strathclyde offers this way .. Is it ??

To brief up, I would like to know:

1. How is Strathclyde Msc in Business and Managment course? Please post recruitment figures if u hv ny..
2. How is the job scene in Glasgow?
3. How is the job scene in UK?

Please help me frnds, I am really confused at the moment whether to go for a course this year or work for another year and then apply for MBA to TIER-1 colleges in US/UK..

Regards,

Hello

Scoring 720 in GMAT is not a easy achievement....I could understand .... how much efforts you have poured on preparation..Congrats....

BTW,I think you are bit late but still you can succeed if not by next year...Understood that you got some financial issues...but MBA is closely related with branding.....Suggest to work towards Ox,LBS,Cass(For sep intake Cambridge has already finished interview section by Jan-so no options for cam) etc...Make some loan arrangements....

Do not waste your GMAT resources in haste...Try by this year or else wait and apply by next year...More over you may be rejected in premier univ becoz of less exp...Another one year will make you to be 3.5 yrs exp....So you are fully qualified....

Finally with this score level if you join in top tier univ that will become a perfect blending.....You will get the frisking start ....and focus only on MBA....May not suggest on Msc...

Thnx susee!

1. Effort for GMAT prep - Well, I had to only focus on VA, as being an engineer, I had no real prob in mathematics... Did OG 12, Kaplan 800, took a few tests here nd dre nd dats it.
Also revised spidey's notes for SC.. they were gud :)

2. But strathclyde MsC in Bus nd Mngmnt cn be converted into MBA by doing certain courses... Here check the link

http://www.strath.ac.uk/management/mbm/conversiontomba/

Wont it be a gud choice ?? Dts y i wanted to get some facts on recruitment and job options in UK..Please post if u hv ny..

I am also aware of those preparation notes...

What is the point to think about employment if you got an offer from LBS,Oxbridge etc....If this question still strikes you than it raises a serious doubt on univ quality and rankings....Forget these worries.......Focus on MBA...

It takes three yrs from graduation to convert your deg to MBA program...I once again stress you to think on LBS,Oxbridge....
Do not sell your stuff for a cheaper price...

Oh I am hating my job(my present role infact) and really looking for exit options :P

On a serious note, I know dt my profile aint for LBS,Oxbridge right now..Ex: LBS has 1 full essay on international exposure, nd I dont have ny of it....

OK, after some more research, I dropped strathclyde from my list... But I am really looking at these courses:

1. MSc In Operations Research.. Lancaster
2. Analytics: Operational Research and Risk Analysis MSc.. Manchester
3. MSc in Management Science & Operational Research. .Warwick Business School

I cn work some time in UK (hope, I cn work for 2-3 years??) nd den go for an MBA from really a good school like LBS, INSEAD, IMD (switzerland)... I dont mind waiting so long.. M a good brand name obsessed soul... :P

Am i on the right track... chances of getting job in UK from above courses ???

I think you are looking for a mere employment in UK....You are going to use your Msc as a ticket to get employed in UK....
Before deciding, the very important questions to be answered is Why you gave GMAT test? Are you getting 100 % credibility of your GMAT score?

A big no....

Norms says that you can use your GMAT score for 4 yrs but in reality univ will not consider scores which are older than 2 yrs...

Rest is your choice....All the best

Hey,

You're a bit late, the deadline for Lancaster's October intake is 31st May and their application doesn't have loads of long essay questions - just a personal statement section.

Your GMAT score is officially valid for 5 years. :)

Hello

You have a very good GMAT score and TOEFL. Please do not think of going for MSc program from any university. Even , if its a bit late, that would cover up if you have an MBA from a reputed university.

I know , you want to work in the UK with the MBA option, so I will suggest you look into the 50 reputed universities which UK government recognises as top quality and provides the HSMP migration option to the MBA grads from those.

Search in the google for HSMP MBA universities list.

Try to pursue the degree from any of the suitable . Also, If you apply for the universities early, chances are very high that you can receive aid.

Please do as said.

Good luck

At the risk of sounding redundant, I will recommend the same program to you that I recommended in another post. If you are not averse to traveling to the U.S. for school, check out the program offered at MIT that combines systems engineering and business administration into a single Master's program. They have full time, part time, and distance (with several short residencies) formats to choose from. The program is taught in a partnership between the MIT Engineering division and the Sloan School of Management.

Wt r d Reasons in your opinion for not joining ?

U mean to say I shall apply to Cass, Oxbridge in the Msc program ? if yes, then 2010 or 2011 ?

Management degree from a Reputed university is important than a mere degree .

You will see greater heaights in career with quality education from reputed and top ranked universities.

Campus placments etc. .. are excellent in Camb/Oxf/LSB/Cass etc... in uk.

So try gettng into them. ALso, join MBA than MSc bcos u have good chance of being selected for MBA itlsef. MSc is sceondary degree..

If you wait and join the best univ, its worth ....

Dont compromise....
