When I made my appointment in London, there was a gap of a few weeks before I could get into a test. Other than that, it was straightforward.

As far as I know, there are no unique peculiarities about taking the GMAT in the UK. There is a test center in central London as well as a few outside the city in Watford and Crawley.
Make sure you schedule in advance - I checked the London center's calendar and there is only one more day open in November and a handful of openings in December at the moment.
More generally, if you're not a native English speaker, or don't have a firm grasp on the language, you can do some verbal and written exercises beforehand to buff up your language skills. And depending on when you want to take the test, there are always tutors and other help available.
