Can anyone suggest an accredited post graduate qualification in research methods PGCert/ PGDip / MRes that can be completed via distance learning or online. Thanks.

Duncan are you talking about the PhD because I can’t see a stand-alone masters/diploma type course.

My mistake. A friend took their Doctorate in social science online and I thought they had an intermediate award after the four core modules. Maybe check with them? Huddersfield had an MSc in social research.

Also look at https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/postgraduate/courses/taught/med/pg-modules/research-methods-(distance-learning).aspx and a similar MOOC from the University of London international programme.

Isn't it usually a single course called "Research Methods" or "Scientific Methods"?
Usually in the requirements to apply somewhere for MSc or PhD?

Depends on what the OP is looking for. An MRes would let you skip the whole first year of a PhD and proceed straight to supervised reading and writing.
