FT's MBA Rankings 2024

I came across Hult International Business School on the list and I'm curious about its inclusion. Is the school's reputation that good, or are there other factors at play? My lack of familiarity with the institution may have left me uninformed about its credentials. Also, I noticed that the University of Edinburgh has regained its position on the list. What are your thoughts on its reinstatement?

The ranking doesn't assess reputation. Compared to similarly-ranked schools (like Rutgers or Babson, say) Hult performs well on variables that it has a fair degree of control over: its carbon footprint; ESG teaching; international course experience and international mobility (which reflect the multi-campus nature of the school and its cohort); international board, female students; women on board etc. It also has a smaller percentage of students completing the FT survey, so some participants with worse outcomes might not be in the pool.

It has much worse outcomes on the things that are harder to control: most obviously salary and salary increase.

Edinburgh has a small MBA program. Almost certainly, its reentry is about data sufficiency. Schools can't be ranked if the number of survey completions is too small.

PS Hult is actually the US school with the lowest average reported salary, $121,788. That's lower than Fordham and Northeastern, which are lower ranked and substantially below Babson and Rutgers, which are similarly ranked to Hult. It's less than HALF that of top-earning schools like Stanford, Harvard and Wharton

More broadly, as the FT rankings expand their range of criteria, there are more surprises for people who expect the ranking to reflect salary. Bocconi overtakes Stanford because of much better performance on its carbon footprint, ESG teaching, employer diversity, female faculty, international board, international mobility, international students, percentage employed, and salary increase.

Duncan - UEBS alumni here.

"Edinburgh has a small MBA program. Almost certainly, its reentry is about data sufficiency. Schools can't be ranked if the number of survey completions is too small."

Can you elaborate a bit here? Would you happen to know what's the threshold (class size vs % of survey received)? I understand the current ranking is from the 19/20 cohort which has about 50 cohort members.

Cheers.

I believe you need at least 30 and at least 75%.
