Consulting MBA or MSc in consulting and strategy in France- which is best for my situation?

Hi all,

I am Marc from the Philippines and am applying for masters program in France for a consulting career path.

I had varied roles in my career: from customer service, data management for clinical data consulting, non profit and Sr. Business development associate in a HR consulting firm. I have +8 years of experience and would like to get my career in the next level specifically in strategic consulting.

My dilemma: Msc in Strategy and Consulting or MBA to get into a consulting role?

I saw that Msc is for students who have little work experience while MBA is for those targeting senior/manager roles. Here are my questions:

1. Is a Msc in consuting equivalent to a MBA for a consulting role in France? I speak near native level French and use it for work on regular basis.

2. Is the salary for a Msc consulting graduate close to a MBA graduate for a consulting role?

The reason why I am asking is also because of the financial aspect- My local scholarship option limits me to get masters programs that have 18-24 months duration and does not cover a 11-12month MBA. I am wondering if the MBA would translate to better opportunities salary and network wise and see if it is worth it without the local scholarship.

Any comments would help!

You would not be admitted to a MiM because of your work experience. Your questions are not the right ones.

Thank you Stuart for your response. I made the mistake and corrected that it should be Msc in Strategy and consulting not MiM.

There will be a bigger difference between the schools than between degrees: An MSc graduate from HEC will earn more than an MBA graduate from Troyes. There are some 18 month MBAs in France, most obviously HEC. An MSc on average won't have the same outcomes because the work experience and value of the graduates will generally be lower than MBAs at the same school.
