Top 10 Canadian MBA Programs

ralph

Corporate Knights Magazine recently put out its annual top 10 ranking of Canadian MBA programs. Like many of the top 10s (*cough* Beyond Grey Pinstripes) there's a definite focus on sustainable practices. Although Corporate Knights has some interesting things to say about this subject:

one thing was clear: there are strong leaders when it comes to sustainability in business education, but the majority still has a lot to learn.

I do agree with their chief researcher, who said this about sustainability in business programs:

Too often, universities are looking at sustainability as a niche course or case study. It needs to become part of the mainstream curriculum, woven into the core of business education. This year?s leaders represent a needed shift towards a more holistic education system.

Makes sense, doesn't it?

As for the rankings, not much surprising here... Schulich has been at the top of this list for seven years now:

1. York University - Schulich School of Business
2. University of Calgary - Haskayne School of Business
3. Concordia University - John Molson School of Business
4. University of Alberta
5. University of British Columbia
6. University of Toronto
7. McGill University - Desautels Faculty of Management
8. Simon Fraser University
9. École des Hautes Études Commerciales,
 Université de Montréal (HEC Montréal)
10. Dalhousie University

Why isn't Queen's on this list? It beats all these programs on the Business Week Ranking...

Perhaps because it is a ranking about sustainability rather than student outcomes?

Perhaps because it is a ranking about sustainability rather than student outcomes?

True - the top programs on this list tend to have sustainability integrated into their curriculums York Schulich offers a specialization in business and sustainability, Alberta has a stream in Sustainability, etc.

As far as I know, Queen's does have a dedicated "Centre for Responsible Leadership," but only offers a certificate in social responsible leadership, with no other elective course offerings in this area. maybe if they continue to build out the centre by adding more courses they would be considered for this ranking.
