Colleges which may ignore my low acads!

Atyant

Hi
I am Atyant and I am from India. I am in my prefinal year of engineering and engineer for me was on a sour side. I opted for civil engineering while I was an enthusiastic coder. Basically because of my parents. I was more keen towards graphic designing and then I decided to work on my start up!
My GPA is 2.3 because even the top percentilers in my university end up scoring something close to 3.3. I recently gave GMAT an attempt and scored 760. I am not from the best of the universities we have in India. I need suggestion what would be my best shot with this score. I have part time job experience and a startup along with few off campus activities such as organizing events

Update: I am eyeing on universities in US, Australia, Canada as per the work policy somebody mentioned I will have to fly back after my course

@Atyant,

with a GMAT score of 760 and your startup experience - I think you can write a compelling story in your supplementary / additional essays explaining reasons for your low GPA (IF REQUIRED).

Many MBA programs in US may not require GPA conversion. I am not sure if you converted your GPA yourself to a 4 point scale. There are agencies like WES, ECE etc. that perform the conversion. They understand that unlike US, In India 100% marks are not given in various universities.

Write solid essays. You'll be fine!

Thanks for your reply. Yes I converted it using the conversion I could find. Actually I started up this tee-shirt manufacturing company in my area which basically sells customized tee-shirts on demand. It is barely 6 months old and my academics in school are not so impressive. I wasn't serious with studies until college. The top percentiler end up scoring 79-80% which is actually the highest while I am still in my prefinal year so I can only apply next year. I have two start ups and planning for the 3rd (related to Travelling). I was pretty dissappointed by myself for the low grads and I decided to give gmat after preparing for almost 5 months! This was my first attempt to get well versed with the exam. I'll give it a try again next year if they don't consider last year's GMAT score. I am pretty sure I can improve it next year. Also can you tell me which college I can apply for and if they'll buy the reason for my low grads which was basically for my disinterest towards engineering. I have very limited knowledge about the college in US! That is the reason I am requesting it here instead of just googling it on web and thank you for your time.

I think that a lot of schools will overlook a weak undergrad degree with a strong GMAT. EDHEC comes to mind, but I got into LBS with a weak degree and a better GMAT coupled to good work experience.

Applicants will need at least three years, and on average five years, at most good MBAs.
