Is a 3 year Manegerial Work experience a must to get into the top 25?

Hi.. I have 3.5 years of Techical experience. I also have an experience working for an NGO I co-founded with my colleagues in Jan 2007. I have been one of the people who drive the NGO and also have been managing a complete project in Bangalore.

i attended the Edu UK fair at Taj in Bangalore yesterday. I was keen on getting into the likes of Durham, Aston, Birmingham, Leeds, Lancaster, Leicester etc. But most of these take in students with a manegerial experience. Some of them said i had a chance with my NGO work and others said it looked difficult.

Is anyone out there who had a similar profile and got into one of these top tier B schools?
Could you also recommend which B schools might consider my profile?

I think the main thing is the quality of the work experience: the quality is more important than the quantity! I have almost the same profil and I?ve got the feeling that it will be very tough to get admitted in a top BS.

Almost every BS requires 3 years of managerial work experience. But there is a huge difference between the requirements and the reality!! Nearly 5 years of work experience are mandatory to get admitted.

My Profil:
I have a Diploma in Engineering with B+ (Diplm. Eng = 5 Years) and a master degree with A+ (2 years ---> so the whole duration of the education: 7 years).
3 years as a Project Engineer: I've managed more than 90 Projects with direct contact to the customers.

My strategy looks as follow:
I will focus on the GMAT, and I?m doing my best to achieve a high score.
I?m preparing for the PMP certificate.

I?m interested on the following BS:
Warwick, Strathlyde and Cranfield.

Where there is a will, there is a way!

Myself had been in project for 2 years and I hold a CAPM certificate...If you dont mind me asking, may I ask you how could you be in 90 projects within a span of just 3 years? I mean, I was in just a single project for 2 years...No offence but seems unrealistic...would you mind telling us what type of industry you were in?

Hello,

Your question is fully legitimate. Let me tell you something about these Projects.
We deliver electrical substations (medium Voltage). The duration of such projects is between 2 and 3 months. (It depends on the scope of supply)
The value (Budget) is between 100.000 Euro and 500.000 Euros.
For instance: I have managed 18 projects in the last three months and the whole value is app. 3 million Euros.
In other words: I manage small projects.

I would like the show you another kind of Projects:
Nuclear Power Plant: you need more than 5 years to manage such a Project. The project?s budget is huge.
Thanks.

Ya...thats rights...project vary from industry to industry...I would be a little blunt here....get that PMP certificate else its gonna be very difficult trying to make the admission committee believe in the number of projects that you handled...

Cheers!

And more over Leeds has lost its FT rankings.Leicester is good but in university rankings.Cant say on MBA aspects. If you have completed your tests what was your score. That will help me to make some predictions for you.

Hi, did you say that you'd taken the GMAT?

Consider Cranfield, they're a good research institution and have a huge alumni network (>12,000). Their average work experience is higher but with a good GMAT score you could give it a shot?
