EMBA tossup: Oxford / Kellogg/WHU / UCD Smurfit

Coldflier

I'm an EMBA applicant looking to undertake an EMBA located primarily in Europe over the next year. Modular programs (1 week in every 5-6) suit me best. I applied to Chicago Booth (London campus) and Oxford and received offers from both. Due to a change in my financing situation, I've had to turn down Booth.

While Oxford is still under consideration, I'm now looking at slightly more economical options, including INSEAD and WHU/Kellogg and a significantly more economical and convenient one in UCD Smurfit.

My priorities in choosing a program are:
- Reputation and network (in the US and internationally)
- strength in VC/PE and Entrepreneurship/Innovation

I'd appreciate thoughts on how Oxford, Insead and WHU/Kellogg stack up side by side on these two priorities. I'm also keen to hear thoughts on whether the savings from pursuing UCD Smurfit might be outweighed by the step down in how UCD compares on these two fronts.

UCD wouldn't have nearly the same network as the other schools you're looking at. Booth sounds like a great fit for you, considering you were looking for a network in the US plus strengths in PE / VC - so it's a shame you had to turn it down.

The Kellogg / WHU program sounds promising since you're looking for a US network. It would be interesting to do a search on LinkedIn to see how the program's alumni base stacks up against those of Oxford and Insead.

Same interest here. Can someone help to compare the strengths of curriculum between those schools?

Pretty easy for you to do. Divide the number of days on campus by the number of courses. Compare the size of the core, and in particular the time on stuff that will push you out of your comfort zone. For me, it was really important that my EMBA had a lot of time for finance spread over the longer period possible. Oxford and WHU both seemed, when I looked at them, to have been very light on quant material and to have stepped through it as quickly as possible.
