GMAT tips?

carly85

I was just wondering - has anybody taken the GMAT recently, and can give me some tips?

I'm going to take it next month, and am especially concerned because I haven't been doing a lot of quantitative work in my current job.

And how do people normally prepare for the integrated reasoning part? Any strategies?

There's so much material online about this, and on this discussion board (http://www.find-mba.com/boardsearch/10404/q/prepare). What could anyone say which is not already available online?

The integrated reasoning section can be tricky because it's not a yes/no or multiple choice answer, so you can't easily know if you're on the right track.

In general, the key idea is to practice, practice, practice. Find as many sample questions as you can and answer them. The more you do these, the more you'll start thinking in terms of solving the specific kinds of problems they present.

If you're really worried about it, try to find somebody who can read over your answers. Typically, GMAT consultants can help you with this - but it really can be anybody who you trust to give you solid feedback. Maybe you know people who've taken the GMAT before who you can ask.

I'll be taking the GMAT soon and have already started to prepare. I think it's mostly about doing the practice tests enough so that you really understand what concepts you need to improve.

Like you, I thought I lacked quant skills, but just a practice test showed me how much I already knew (even if it was somewhat buried from years of not using it.)

Good luck!

Some good advice here. Generally, I think you should find out your weaknesses and go from there. Don't spend time on concepts that you already know.

I know that many people struggle with the advanced quant like permutations, combinations, etc - but really, the only way to learn these is to just do them over and over again until you get them right.
