GMAC is working on an online / at-home GMAT test

GMAC is preparing an online version of the GMAT, they're using words like 'alternative' and 'interim' so I don't think this will persist, but I guess it will be a good solution in the meantime.

Says it will be available in "impacted markets" but not in mainland China.

I am not sure how they will safeguard against cheating / impersonation. I guess there will probably be some biometric security like taking photos / videos through a webcam. But I don't want to speculate too much.

Risky!!
No one can guarantee a stable internet connection. No one will take the responsibility for any service interruption - which is unfair to students who are taking it at home and also unfair to students who took it after travelling to test centers.

I guess the covid-19 hit their revenue hard. I will not be surprised to see some schools think out of the box and start ditching it altogether and perhaps use other indicators.

Maybe the page has been updated since you posted it, but they explain that they will have remote proctors.

I have given many online exams for various certifications and courses.
There is a person looking at you via the webcam.
They make sure no one else enters the room and that you don't speak with anyone.
You show your id to confirm it is you.
Some companies like Peoplecert even gives you their own software to install that you can't alt-tab to open the internet

There may be ways to cheat, but well... there are always ways to cheat even if not online. I don't see any bigger cheating risk via online proctoring.

I guess that's one way of doing it. I agree that it opens the system up to possible ways of cheating. Nothing, though, is full-proof - not even in-person tests!

For who just started with the preparation for the online exam, will be easier to achive an high GMAT score with the omission of Analytical Writing Assessment Section? How many study hours are recommendable to spend between online lessons and exercises?

My target GMAT score is 650.
Thanks and best regards.

The AWA is reported in a separate score: https://www.mba.com/exams/gmat/about-the-gmat-exam/gmat-exam-structure/how-is-the-gmat-exam-scored
Most people spend 50 to 100 hours preparing

Besides not having the the Analytical Writing Assessment Section, what are the pros/cons of doing the GMAT online/at home?
Would you suggest to do it online?
Are there any news if it would be possible to take it on line even after the 15th June?
Thanks
