Very Urgent Help - Lancaster vs Vlerick vs UCD vs Edinburgh

Dear All,

I need very urgent suggest on MBA programme from above mentioned B-Schools. I have to make my decision by tomorrow since I need to pay the fees.

My profile: 6 years of work experience with EY and Deloitte in Market Business Research roles. Presently I am working with EY as a Supervisor managing a team of 17 people. I have BBA in my under-graduation.

I want to work with any BIG 4 or Accenture or any other Business Research firm `in the country from where I will complete my MBA. I dont have knowledge of any other foreign language except English.

My confusion is that as per the FT ranking clearly Lancaster is the winner ranked 50th this year. However I understand rankings is just one parameter, there are several other factors of importance while considering MBA. I would be very grateful if you all can help. Furthermore, UK visa system leads to more confusion. Is it advisable to go with Lancaster though Belgium or Ireland offer 1 year post studies work permit.

P.S. I am from India.

I would be highly obliged for your answers.

Thanks

Given your language skills, Vlerick is out. Take this apprpach with the others: How to use LinkedIn to find the best school www.find-mba.com/board/33571

My guess is that UCD is the better of these.

Thanks Duncan,

I read your previous posts so adopted this approach...However linkedin results are based on overall data.....but things have changed massively especially in UK for International students..How would you rate Lancaster for placement success in UK?
I have checked with few alumni of UCD and they suggested Ireland is an excellent choice if you want to work in IT sector. However for market research it might not be the best location to seek employment.
Additionally do you have any idea when will FT 2016 Global MBA ranking woul be released?

Lancaster is pretty good for international placement. See Best schools for international students' placement http://www.find-mba.com/board/41143 But for market research... I wonder if there are MBA roles?

Thanks for the reply Duncan. I referred to post you pasted and found UCD doesnt exist in that list. However your initial suggestion was to go for UCD over Lancaster...although Lancaster is no. 15 in the list provided by you. Is there any specific reason you recommended UCD over Lancaster? I am just curious to know if that suggestion is based on my career goals.

Additionally, do you think a specialized master's in marketing would be a better choice for my career goals? My only concern with Msc Marketing is that mostly these courses have inexperienced cohort so I am not sure where somebody with an exp. of 6 years would fit it.

I found you have highly recommended Msc in Marketing practice to some people on this forum.Do you think its wise to go for Msc Marketing Practice over MBA from UCD or Lancaster

UCD is not in that list because it has a large number of domestic students: that post explains the methodology used. My suggestion is not UCD: that is my guess. My suggestion is that you follow the method in the post about using LinkedIn.

I think you have too much work experience to be accepted into the MSc in Marketing Practice and, in any case, the MBA is better for your goals.

Have you considered a masters in marketing research? Ghent and Georgia stand out as world class programmes.

Thanks for the very kind suggestion Duncan. However Ghent is looking for only Master's level or 4 years undergrad degree holders.I did 3 years BBA in my undergrad...Secondly Georgia is seeking for a GMAT score of 648 minimum....whereas i got just 600.....So I am not sure if they would be willing to take me......I understand these are 2 world class programme for marketing research....Do you have any views abt IE Master in Marketing Research? or any other place you would recommend?

I recommend you use the method outlined in the post on LinkedIn, or hire a specialist. There are lots of options and your goal is specific and unusual for an MBA.

I think that the Georgia MMR program doesn't have 648 as the minimum GMAT; that's simply the current cohort average. Great program by the way, it would probably be worth trying to bump up your GMAT score a bit to apply.
