I am planning a full time MBA in Sept 2010. If I take a 1 yr program in Europe, I will be 33 yrs on graduation and 34 if I take a 2 year program.
Is 33 yrs too old to be recruited as a trader? What about 34 yrs?
Please advise. Thank You.

You're asking regarding return on investment of the 1-yr program? I'm 34, with a financial background and at Central European University. Return on investment was a major plus for a one-year program, and for this program in particular versus INSEAD for instance. I was not working as a trader, but would expect even the "bulge bracket" firms wouldn't be too sensitive to age if you can show you know your stuff. Have you looked into the CFA program as well? (I finished that program also.)

Hi Cnichols,
Thanks for your response. You seem to be saying that to be a trader the age of 33 is not a problem.!?? If this is the case then I think an MBA might be worthwhile for me.
I have not looked into the CFA. The genearl management scope of the MBA sounds more exciting. INSEAD is really super expensive so I am looking at schools like oxford and cambridge.
I always thought that a preference for traders in the big inverstment banks was for 27/28 year olds. Your post gives me hope.....!

Hello,
In my class a lot of guys were around 30-31. I really don't believe 33 or 34 is 'too old' to get an MBA.
Cheers

Hi efeedz - loved the chris gardner commencement on your blog. encouraging to think that people think I can still do it at what seems to me is a young age. But many MBA's warn that for certain careers I am too old...
where are you doing your degree? and would you recommend that school?

You're not too old. Average age at Columbia when i was ther was 27/28. However, I was 10 years older. I recommend it at any age, but certainly at your age.

Hi Rgf,
Thanks for your comment. can you elaborate on how you found the columbia MBA during the time? Plus your background and what you went on to do post-MBA?
