Well, it certainly is possible, but it depends on why you want the MBA. I know you're a business lawyer, but so? What are you trying to jump into? Finance? There are certainly many schools with finance concentrations. Columbia, NYU, Chicago being some of them. Though an MBA is in many ways a more generalist degree than an MSc in Finance. Otherwise, marketing, consulting, etc. are also quite relevant.

an MBA can be a good idea if you want to change into a more cooperate career - armed with business and law knowledge, it should make you quite appealing to employers.

i think there are some schools that combine law and business, but maybe in your case you would want a more general MBA program, to fill in the "gaps" in your business education.

you can also try searching this forum, and the forum at LLM guide(http://www.llm-guide.com/) for more info. i have searched for MBA and LLM and got some interesting posts.

you should also look into JD MBA programs, like this one(although i am not sure it is relevant for you):

Well, if he's already got a JD, there's no reason at all to get another one via a JD-MBA program. LLM-MBA might be option. There's an interesting Masters in Law and Business course in Germany run by one Germany's top business schools WHU and Bucerius Law School in Hamburg.

But in general, the business law angle should be a definite asset in looking for a job post MBA.

thanks you all guys for your replies!

actually, I gota law degree and an LLM already(i am specialisedin Finance law). I am therefore interested in a more general MBA, where I can fill the gap in management, accounting etc. as I would like to move to a more corporate/business position.

However, I have a short experience, only 2,5 years, this is my biggest concern.

I am not sure that your work experience would be a problem, especially since you already hold an LLM. ++ by the time you will start the admissions process it would probably be 3 years, and that is enough for most schools.

Hi, I am actually asking the same question - is an MBA useful for a corporate lawyer. I am a M&A lawyer also with banking experience and want to do an MBA to move into a more business orientated role rather than working for a law firm. I already have an LLM.
Does anyone know whether a school like INSEAD or IMD views lawyers favourably? I have 8 years work experience.

Thanks!

In general schools like to have some lawyers in their class I think, because of the mix background of any class, so I guess it is absolutely possible that in a MBa class there are few lawyers, but of course more experienced people than me can say this better!

For me, that I am thinking about the same even if with only 2 years of experience post-LLM, the big question is if it is possible to find a good job after an MBA with a legal background. And this is my biggest issue, especially as I plan to do an MBA in East Europe.

schools do like to have a mixed group of students from different backgrounds. they call it diversity.... in fact, some people get admitted because they have an unusual background. a lawyer is not so unusual, but i think they are looked upon favorably.

and about getting work - i think any employer would like a lawyer with an MBA - its two for the price of one.... :-)

Hi,

MBA after law would be good choice and would help you to create a career in corporate sector. I think it would be worth going for it.
