Hi everyone,
I'm currently an MBA student at Kellogg with a background in management consulting (5 years at a Big 4 firm). I'm considering a pivot to corporate strategy, ideally in the tech or healthcare sectors.
A few questions for those who have made a similar transition:
1. How difficult is the shift from consulting to an in-house strategy role, especially without prior industry-specific experience?
2. What are the key skills or experiences I should highlight to recruiters or hiring managers?
3. Would it be more beneficial to focus on M&A/Corporate Development, or would general strategy roles provide broader learning opportunities?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

I made a bigger transition around the time of my MBA.
1. It's challenging.
2. I stressed how my prior experience gave me a different and more structured approach that would produce different results.
3. M&A is clearly an easier shift from general strategy. Fewer roles also gives you a more focussed job hunt
The careers services team at Kellogg will be able to help you much more.

Much appreciated, Duncan. It's encouraging to see that though it's challenging, people have gone through even more stark transitions. I'll delve deeper with the career services team at Kellogg.
