WHU - GMAT 620

Hi Folks,

Need some help here, I took the GMAT recently and got the score of 620. I know its on the lower side given that I belong to Indian IT Male. I am targetting my MBA from Germany. I communicated with WHU and came to know that they are still accepting the admissions. However the deadline is 16 Dec. I am really in a dilemma. I had made up my mind to retake the GMAT at Dec end but after this mail , I am wondering about my chances at WHU. The problem is I am yet to take IELTS/TOEFL . I am sure that I will be able to come up with satisfactory score in it but then my preparation for GMAT takes the backseat. Can you please give some advice, do I have a chance with this GMAT at WHU. PS: I have 5 plus years of work ex as technical consultant and I am A2 in German.

If you think you are ready for your MBA experience and WHU is your target school then apply. You can always inform them that you intend to retake GMAT to strength your profile.

If you want to strength your German skills to B2/C1 then wait a year till you are in a clearer position with your improved GMAT, TOEFL score, target school's desired deadlines etc.

Ayon's advice is spot on. Your current GMAT score is lower than the average, and since you're in a highly competitive applicant group (a lot of Indian IT males are, as you probably know, looking to study their MBAs in Germany), you want to actually outscore the average. Either wait until next year, or apply now and tell them you're planning on re-taking the GMAT ASAP. Without a substantial bump in your GMAT score, your chances are fairly low.

Thanks a lot Ayon and Laurie. Yes I know my GMAT is on the lower side but when i checked , I found that WHU has average GMAT score of 600. Hence I was thinking of applying there.

Here it says so, and then I found that this data is quite old. On Economist its mentioned 640, which I assume it is.
Anyways, I am concentrating on my GMAT now and will try to improve the score. Thanks a lot guys for the replies

In your GMAT tiers post, actually:

http://find-mba.com/board/gmat/gmat-tiers-strong-schools-for-your-gmat-23247

:)

They don't actually publish this info on their website but elsewhere it says that the average is around 650. That feels right to me - maybe it's a bit higher for admitted students from India.
