ESADE vs HHL vs WHU

School with the biggest brand name on that list is definitely LBS. HEC, also has a great reputation, but you won't have access to their great career service within France, if you do not speak French (that's why I did not choose it). ESADE, St. Gallen and WHU are very good for consulting as well. If you want to work in the German speaking countries, I'd go to St. Gallen (great ROI). Outside of the German speaking countries, ESADE probably has a slightly better reputation than WHU or HHL. ESADE has a pretty good career service in Germany as well. Actually, all of these schools should get you interviews at tier 1 consultants.

Do not pick your school because of its rank and reputation only. Pick a school that fits to you personally!

Great advice. St. Gallen would be a great choice; the FT's info suggest that somewhere around 40 percent of the grads from the Master of Arts in Strategy and International Management program end up in consultancies. However, WHU and HHL aren't far behind with around 30 percent... German skills would probably be pretty important at any of these schools though.

Since I am also interested in ESADE, I just got some more info on career opportunities there for you. Top 5 recruiters of all MSc programs in the last 3 years: 1. Google 2. BCG 3. P&G 4. McKinsey 5. PwC (and 7. Roland Berger). So you definitely will have a good chance to work for one of the top consultants upon graduation.

Hi Duncan,

There has been a new development. I received an offer for Masters of Science in Business Administration (SCM) at University of Cologne? Its almost tuition free! How does this compare to WHU or HHL? I know the large public and small private differences but in terms of career prospects..I guess it is very reputed.. Please advise.

OMG it is ranked 53. Thought it would be higher as it is reputed department and a very old university..maybe their career services etc are bad.

Why is Mannheim MiM ranked low as well? Same reasons? What are my equal or better alternatives to WHU and HHL in Germany?

Mannheim is better known for its Bachelor's degree. Nevertheless, you will have great job opportunities in Germany upon graduation anyway. Germany tends to pay better than the rest of Europe, that's why the average salaries are higher. Internationally renowned top schools for the Master in Management would probably be LBS, HEC, ESSEC, IE, ESADE and HSG. You will also be able to find a job in Germany with a degree from all of these schools.

But again, don't just pick schools because of rankings. One of the reason, for example, why I turned down HEC's Grande Ecole program was the miserable location of the campus. These are all pretty good schools, so you basically can't pick a bad one (unless you want to get into London IB).

Number 18 in the world is "not ranked well"? Ranked above Warwick and Cass, I am sure the students are pretty happy with $78,000 a year.
