Why do you want to go to school in Australia??
The best Finance MBA with Asian focus is the HONG KONG UST B-School. They also have the best Msc Finance programs. Msc Investment Management, and brand new Msc Global Finance in collaboration with NYU.

Finance is a hot are right now and will continue to be so for the foreseable future, I think you are definitely making the right decision.
You can go to HONG KONG UST get their prestigious Finance MBA and if you want you can exchange to another school for 4 months be it in Singapore, Australia, or best schools in Europe or the US.

If you are looking to switch career, taking an MBA at a good school, with concentration in finance, will be the better option. Almost all investment banking companies have special career track that value MBA graduates. Look up websites of IB companies (e.g. Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, CSFB, Morgan Stanley, Macquarie Group, Citigroup, etc.).
In addition, as MBA graduate you're valued more due to your exposure to other business knowledge (strategy, marketing, org behaviour/structure, etc.) that you study at the MBA program. Even if you're not interested in banking, but say in corp finance area in an industrial company, MBA will give you better value.
Again, in Australia AGSM and MBS are the best schools. I know graduates from these schools are highly sought after by finance companies.

augurswell: care to elaborate what you mean by mid-career change? How long have you been working at IT?
I don't think it might be a big problem, I know some people with IT, engineering, marketing background who've made career change to IB (investment banking).
