Sacred Heart University Announces New Master's in Finance and Investment Management

Program to launch in 2015, can be completed in 1.5 years

Sacred Heart University’s Welch College of Business has announced that it will launch a Master's in Finance and Investment Management, beginning in 2015.

The new program "was developed out of a response to the changing needs for more analytical, quantitative and finance professionals in the marketplace,” said Kwamie Dunbar, the interim director of the new program.

The program will cover a range of topics, including core topics in finance like quantitative finance, derivatives and risk management, as well as securities. Electives include classes such as "Global Financial Markets and Institutions," and "Numerical Methods in Finance."

Students will also be able to pursue an internship as part of the program.

The Master's in Finance and Investment Management will help prepare students for careers in "investment analysis, wealth management or portfolio management," according to the course webpage. Additionally, the program will also assist students in becoming prepared to pursue a CFA designation.

The program is flexible, but students who take nine units each trimester will be able to finish the program in 1.5 years.

SHU - Welch is accredited by AACSB.

A GMAT score of 570 or a comparable GRE score will be required to apply to the new program; however, applicants who have an "outstanding" academic record or work experience may be considered with GMAT scores of 500 and above.

The program is set to launch in fall of 2015. The early action deadline to apply is March 15.
