us MBA programs

Bhar.ath

Hi ,

I have 7.5 years of experience in technology consulting. I work with a very reputed company and have received awards for services and ideas .

I have a GMAT score of 690 and IELTS of 8. I also have work experience in 5 countries .

I want to join an full time MBA program in US. I would like to join someone who is among the top 20 colleges in world.

Does my profile look good enough. I also realized a bit late ,perhaps, that the deadlines for UsS universities are almost over.

What good universities can I apply considering my profile and timelines.

Appreciate any inputs you guys can provide..

Thanks..

Can you narrow it down a little bit? What schools have you looked at so far? Are you looking for general management programs? 1 years or 2 years?

It seems like you could apply to whatever schools that are still accepting applications.

Also, narrow it down in terms of geography - the US is a big place, and different places can offer vastly different experiences.

And with your GMAT score, you're probably only competitive closer to the bottom the top 20 - think Michigan State, Kelley, or UCLA; rather than say Booth, Harvard, or Wharton.

Hi ,

Thanks for the reply repoman. Appreciate taking your time to help us all out.
I found this link on deadlines which turned out to be incredibly useful.

Thanks Ralph. Your reply is sort of what i was looking for.

I am looking at the lower end of the top 30 mba programs. I am keen on pursuing product management jobs in technology industry. The focus is on strategy , product management and marketing.

I had CMU and Cornell in my mind.

I wanted to know if location of the college makes a difference in securing jobs in US. For instance , if I attend an MBA program from an uni near silicon valley does that provide me a better chance at securing management jobs in technology.

I am looking for a full time general MBA program , preferably at a place where I have a chance of some scholarships.

Could you guys please suggest me some colleges which will suit my requirements.

Regards

Generally, yes. You can build networks and make connections with local firms while you're studying. And occasionally, students find work at a firm after doing a summer internship. Also, different regions of the country have different industries: you mentioned Silicon Valley as a tech hub - but NYC is a good place to go for finance, Chicago for manufacturing, etc.

I'm assuming you'd be enrolling as an international student? Unfortunately, scholarships have become harder to come by for international students enrolling in MBA programs - unless you have an extremely unique profile. But usually, a school's financial aid department will direct to to resources - including fellowships and loans - that will help you fund your studies. Tepper, for instance, has a variety of fellowships that students from various countries (Spain, France, Turkey, Russia, and Turkmenistan - to name a few) can apply for.

Cornell says that over one third of its students receive some kind of scholarship funding, regardless of nationality. Their scholarships are based on merit, prior academic performance and GMAT scores - and since your GMAT is pretty average for entry into that program, you'd have to make a case with your previous work and school experience.

As far as other recommendations, it would pretty much depend on what regions you are looking at and which industry you are interested in working.
