Dear Jasmine,
that depends on many factors.
- How "bad" is your grades in your B.S.
- How good is your work experience
- How competitive are the schools you apply to
- How many other students from Egypt apply there (many schools look for regional diversity)
630 in your TOEFL should do for most schools. I am not sure what a GMAT of 690 is comparable to in the US grading system. Chekc the schools' websites for more information on that.
My advice would be: If you have been in the top 30 (-50?) percent of your class you should try to get into one of the top schools. It take more time to wonder how they will evaluate your academic and professional performance than to apply (you need the same materials for the other schools anyway). The I would apply to some "medium" ranked schools as well. Some business schools, which are not in the top 20 in the US still have a good name internationally and/or have a great location. For instance USC (Marshall),Tulane (Freeman), Vanderbilt (Owen) well-known internationally, but "only" ranked 29, 49 and 50 in the US News ranking.
I doing an MBA in the US is something you really want to do, I would also apply to one or two second tier schools, just to be on the safe side.
Best, LaVoz

Georgetown University (McDonough) and University of Illinois?Urbana-Champaign are reputed internationally regardless to the fact that US News does not place them within the top 20 business schools.

For finance I would recommend
- University of Pennsylvania (Wharton)
- University of Chicago
- NYU Stern
- Columbia Business School
- Fordham
- Thunderbird Garvin
- Boston University
- Illinois Urbana (UIUC)

Hi,
I am a European law student graduating this year and regarding next academic year (i.e. 2007-08) I am accepted to the Vanderbilt LL.M program where I want to take courses related to business law.
However, Vanderbilt offers for LL.M students a joint LL.M-MA program. This means basically that I would (eventually) do next academic year an LL.M and the academic year 2008-09 the MA which courses are given in cooperation with Owen.
I don't intend to keep studying the rest of my life. But as I am very interested to become a business lawyer, I think it could be very interesting to have some knowledge about economics & management and having a more inside view on corporations.
5 years ago, I hesitated a little moment about studying economics instead of law. Just to tell you I am very interested in economics too.
Now my questions.
-You guys think it would be a good plan to do the MA without any working experience?
-Would Owen be a good choice or not? I read here that it's reputation is not bad, but it's ranking is not that great.
Thanks in advance!

I think the same way like you. Is so much money worth it?
Being Brazilian I already part of the BRIC nations, I want to pursue it and will be going to HONG KONG UST for Msc Investment Mangement, perhaps MBA if I can get in.

i got into a top tier programme with a 2.23/4 GPA, as long as the rest of your app is good you shouldn't have a problem. :)

I also get a low GPA and I am trying to find a good program ( Top Tier ) where I can try to get in .
