Hi Folks!!
I have 2 + years of work experience. My gmat score is 500. I am interested in doing my mba in usa. i am going to give my toefl shortly n will do well in tat. I know my scores are not great but i have a good work exp and i want to go for mba this year itself. So i dont have time to give my gmat again.
I have 90.1 % in 12 class and 80.42% in my undergrad degree Btech(cse).
Friends, please suggest me the B schools i can aim for and get it. Are there any B schools which gives more importance to undergrad scores, SOP and work exp than gmat.
Your inputs will be of great help...
Thanks in advance...

My gmat score is 460
You need a better gmat. With 460, you will get nowhere.

Hi,
I have an offer from Lancaster Univ(LUMS) and UGA(Univ of Georgia, Terry) for the MBA program.
US is well known for quality of education but given the recession, job prospects seem to be bleak for a local univ like Georgia which has lost its ranking in Top 100 in Financial Times for Global MBA.
Given the market condition, which is better bet in terms of reputation and job prospects given fees are same for both.
Plz advise.

Hi,
Your GMAT scores are a bit low. A lot of schools have 80% ranges starting in the GMAT 600s. But if you seriously have no time to do your GMAT again, then try Babson College, Case Western Reserve, DePaul U, Santa Clara U, U of Central Florida, U of Denver, or U of Miami. These are schools that you may have a realistic shot at.
If you wish to aim for a higher ranked school, you will need to pull off better GMAT scores Although a GMAT of 500 at Wharton/Harvard/Columbia, etc., for example, is not unheard of, you will need to have some really interesting story to tell in your essays. It is also NOT the norm. Considering that your school grades are quite decent, you can also try to make a case for yourself saying you're not so great at standardized tests b/c you're not American and you're not used to the system. But you need to have shown that you've tried taking the test several times.

This seems like good advice. You dont need to shoot the lights out on the GMAT to get into a decent MBA as long as your story is interesting... as a rule Id say 700+ if you have nothing to offer 600+ if your 'normal' and 500+ if you have a unique and interesting background. Any college that arbitrarily reects you on the result of a standadised test isnt worth going to; its that attitude thats got us in the mess were in!

Thanks. Yeah, the GMAT is an important blip in your entire application radar. But the adcom is also looking for the whole person. So try to bring out your people skills, leadership skills, your travel adventures, etc. Try to bring out a lot of colour.

Hi All,
Kindly help me out here as i am in a big mess. I have done my Bachelors in Engineering ( 60.00% - First Class ), Diploma in Industrial Electronics ( 75 % ). I also have 4 years of work Ex.
The problem is, i just managed to score 460 in the GMAT, as a result the entire plan has gone awry. I wont be giving the GMAT again. Please let me know if i stand any chance to get an admit in universities near NY or Washington or Maryland , Basically Universities in top cities. Kindly help me as i am really running short of time.
Also, can i get admission without using my GMAT scores at all ? Kindly reply asap , a sincere request.

Sadly 460 will preclude you from any Western Business school... The problem being that (assuming you are from the Indian Sub-Continent) MBA programmes are structured in such a way that there are only a limited number of students from any one place /background. Your Indian/ Engineering background is very generic and most Indians applying to school in the US have higher than average GMATS (at my school for instance I would say the lowest Indian GMAT is 680 and highest is probably 750/60) - I would think you would need 680/90+ to get into a school that would justify the time and expense required to complete the MBA programme...
