Hi guys! I know that NY is very expensive in terms of housing. Could anyone give me some practical advice for looking for a flat there (location, resources..)? Many thanks!

You should go to http://newyork.craigslist.org/ . Everybody I know found their apt. there. Good luck!

my adice to you: Dont move anywhere else than manhattan (and some parts of Brooklyn although I wouldnt do it). The reason? Its not safe and its a big hassle to get anywhere from elsewhere. Apart from some 'underground ' venues around Williamsburg in Brooklyn the nightlife is happening only in manhattan. And so is everything else...

I disagree with the last point, the place to be is Williamsburg and Fort Green, nice people, best venues and much cheaper than Manhattan. I would advise you to keep all options open..

Thank you very much for your answers guys! The craigslist site is very helpful (although a little retro designwise ;-))...
