Hi folks,
I have been following various posts from all of you regarding the MBA. I too was planning for an MBA. But I have some problem in selecting my specialization
I completed my engineering in electrical and electronics and was working as HR executive for nearly 32 months. Later I shifted my profession back to engineering and was working as electrical design engineer during the recession period.
Now I am interested to do MBA. I am confused which specialization I should look into. In my mind I have HR and project management.
I would appreciate your thoughts that would enlighten my MBA pathway. Please share your valuable advice.
Regards,
Martin

Hi Martin,
I think MBA general with specialization in PM would be a better option for you as MBA general will keep your doors open for all fields i.e. Finance, HR, General Management, International Business etc and by doing specialization in PM would help you in finding opportunities specifically in Project Management Area.
Since its a time of recession therefore i would suggest that you should keep your doors open for all areas of management.
While selecting a B-School, do look for the electives offered by the school. Some of the top b-schools do offer wide range of electives to choose from.

Hi Mamit,
even I have a similar confusion, i do not have any experience related to HR but very much interested in that area, I have experience only in IT(2.6 yrs). would this exp suffice?Do these schools expect a GMAT score?
Request you to throw some light on the following universities:
Strathclyde
Bradford

Yes if you have some prior experience, however i will still recommend you to opt for Gereral MBA with some modules of Project Management, as it will keep all your doors open.

Think I would agree with doing the general MBA in this case (though sometimes it makes sense to specialize). I'm just not sure what a project management specialization could do for you down the road.

If you do certification courses in PM in addition to your MBA, i believe that would suffice and will give you preference over others who did specialization in PM.
