MBA in UK Universities Guidence

Hello,

I am an Indian with around 6 years of work experience as a Quality Assurance Engineer in the Software Industry. I have worked in multiple organizations; the recent one is a Saas company based on customer support.
I want to switch my domain from a QA engineer to a product management / Business Development / Business Analyst role and the plan to work in the UK for some time after graduation.

Currently, I have a Full-time MBA offer from The University of Sheffield, Aston, Brunel, Queens University Belfast, and Strathclyde.

I got rejected from Liverpool and Birmingham because of my work experience

I have also applied for Glasgow and Leeds but didn’t hear from them yet

As per my research based on the accreditations and rankings,
I have decided to choose either Sheffield or Strathclyde.

But the offer from Strathclyde is conditional that I have to clear the interview (I completed it yesterday and I'm waiting for the result)

At the same time, I have to pay the deposit to Sheffield within 09/06/2023, Otherwise, they will withdraw my offer.

Considering I get the unconditional offer from Strathclyde, Which University will be the better choice?

Can someone here share your thoughts , That would be helpful for me to decide further

Thank you in advance

You career goals are not specific but Strathclyde will be the safer choice for most people.

Hi Duncan,

Thank you for the response,
Basically, I am from the Engineering domain and my role is Quality Assurance Engineer(Software Testing) in the IT industry, I would like to switch my domain from Engineering to Business domain based on the roles such as Product Manager, Business Analyst, and Business Development Consultant. After graduation, my plan is to work in the UK for at least two years in any of the specified roles I mentioned, and also in the future I would like to see myself in a managerial position in the business domain in a top organization in Software Industry.

As per the discussion with the alumni of both Sheffield and Strathclyde University, They have their own pros and cons. Both universities are triple-accredited.
But Sheffield comes under Russel's group.

I heard that there is no point in considering Russel group in terms of business schools.
Still confused about choosing the one.

I know it is already late for Sept 2023 as some of the universities are closed their application(I missed applying for them),
But I will not be able to wait for another year to apply for those, So from the 5 offers I got, I shortlisted these two universities based on the rankings but still not sure how valuable it is.

That's a bit of a sweeping statement: certainly for a PhD, a Russell Group school is probably a better setting. However for the MBA it's not very relevant.

Considering the economic situation and job market in the UK, the common factor I heard from most people is that companies are not considering the MBA degree (Unless you graduated from any Top B schools), They mostly prefer previous experience and are more likely to get a job only relevant to that. What's your thought on this?

Another thing is that job opportunities and preference are slightly higher when you are in London or nearby city? Is this even a case to be considered ?

The data show that better schools get better placement,  unsurprisingly. A better school would give you much better outcomes.

Unemployment is highest in London and so is the supply of foreign talent. Jobs are distributed in line with the population.  I don't see any data to suggest London schools have better placement.

Quickly scanning the two programmes, I'd say that Strathclyde appears a bit more orientated towards digital business and may provide a better foundation for the kind of career move you want into product management or business analysis. It has modules on digital transformation and data and analytics as part of the core programme whereas Sheffield's core appears a bit more traditional.

Also a similar person was on the board recently and I recommended to them engineering management and programme management degrees at Strathclyde and Manchester [one each in their management and business schools].
