Hello everybody,
I have been offered a place for both MBA, Bath’s and Southampton’s, and I do not know which would be the best in this case. I know that none of them are the best MBA in the UK but I cannot afford the tuitions fees of the best schools, so amongst all I can afford, Bath and Southampton are my best choices.
My question is so, between them, could you please let me know which of them is the most convenient in terms of job prospection?
Thank you very much again
Best regards
MBA at Bath or Southampton?

Obviously, you are mistaken to say that you cannot afford better schools. Loans are easily available to almost all candidates admitted to better schools, and financially it makes no sense to attend worse schools if better schools are available. What you mean is that you have a personal preference to not make a larger investment in your future.
Unlike Southampton, Bath gets into a respected business school ranking: https://rankings.ft.com/schools/181/university-of-bath-school-of-management/rankings/2858/european-business-school-rankings-2020
However, its full time MBA has been out of the ranking since 2018 https://rankings.ft.com/schools/181/university-of-bath-school-of-management/rankings/2808/global-mba-ranking-2018
Strathclyde, Cranfield, Edinburgh or Durham will be better options for most students.

I'm not sure what your goals are but neither are usually preferable to other options. As far as which is better, flip a coin. But seriously, by prioritizing cost you are making short-term decisions which affect your long-term career growth. I guess that's the kind of thinking you'd learn in an MBA though.

Dear both,
My goal is get into the Pathway programme of Amazon, for which I need an MBA to be eligible. I do not want to be consultant or work in bank, finance and so on, but having an MBA is a requirement for this programme.
In the Economist’s article also appears the MBA of Lancaster, Leeds and Exeter, but (following your Linkedin research system) I have checked Linkedin and that none of them has any recent graduate registered in the Alumni tab currently working in the company I am looking for, so I do not know if in my case they would be suitable.
Unfortunately, Warwick, Edinburgh, Nottingham, Glasgow and Manchester application’s online processes are already closed.
To summarise, my current options are:
Strathclyde (though it does not appear in the Economist and FT articles and it has not gotin Linkedin any graduate working for my company) Bath Leeds Exeter Birmingham
Of course, if Cranfield or Lancaster accept my application for this year I will take oneof them but I cannot assure it will happen.
Could you please help me to know which of the above mentioned universities could be best for my case?
Thank you very much in advanced

You can answer this yourself using LinkedIn. If you want to work in the Amazon Pathway programme then it might be worth delaying your studies until you can enter one of the programmes it hires from. You might also consider a university in Luxembourg, where they have their European HQ.

Hi Duncan,
I have also been offered a place for Edinburgh MBA though they do not provide its students any placement or internship (unlike Bath). Do you know if Edinburgh is better regarded by employers than Bath?
Thank you

It is. I don't think there is any placement or internship support that Bath has that Edinburgh will not. These are great business schools, but it is always that student that secures the opportunity, not the school. It's unlike India, in that respect.

Hi Duncan,
Thank you very much again for your response. I do not know so much about India as I am Spanish and I live in Spain. Here in Spain normally business schools have an agreement with some companies that allow their students to do a placement, working for those companies (as internship) during several weeks or a few months. After talking to Bath they told me they have 6 companies with the above mentioned kind of agreement and normally the students can opt for three months working there (as internship), up to 6 months.
I have asked Edinburgh for this option but they do not have it. They just have a career department which helps their students to prepare their cvs and be prepared for their interviews, but it is the student who have to find an internship or job by him/herself.
That is why I am in doubt between both schools. I was totally convinced about Bath was well regarded by employers, just until talking to you. Now I am not so sure so I am considering to take Edinburgh offer if it is better regarded. Nevertheless I am a bit worried because of the lack of placement there.
Please, let me know your impression since you are helping me a lot with your point of view.
Thank you again

If Bath have told you that any student can be assured of a placement at one of those six companies, then I would be very surprised.
Posted Sep 05, 2021 03:16
Hi again Duncan,
I do not know if every student can be accepted but they told me I can do a placement in some of those companies.
Anyway the point is which of those universities do you think could increase more my possibilities of being hired after graduate? That is my concern.
I have also the possibility of going to Nottingham Trent.
Thank you again

I think that at Bath and at Edinburgh it will be equally possible to find a internship, temporary placement or a permanent job. It will be your responsibility to find it. Certainly, both schools will have local forms who tend to be repeat recruiters or where there actice alumni.
Focus more on your goals and use LinkedIn to see which places better in your target industry or role.

For example, if you want to work at Amazon then look at where Amazon ires from the most.

Hi Duncan again,
Based on your experience and in terms of employability (and having into account my goal), could you please rank the following business schools?
Edinburgh
Cranfield
Glasgow
Thank you very much in advanced
best regards
