Could we please try and keep the "SMS talk" to a minimum? I don't mind spelling or grammar errors, as many of us, including myself, speak languages other than English. However, I can't understand what some people are trying to say sometimes, when I read all these shortened and chopped-up words...
We are, after all, discussing professional education...
Thanks everyone!

I fully agree that it's much easier to read through the posts when people don't use SMS style words. However, I think in some regions in Asia like India, people are used to shorten words and won't stop that anyway. As this board is open to everyone you will always have people asking questions (like this one: http://www.find-mba.com/board/6575/#post-6845) that make you wonder how they will ever be admitted to an MBA program and survive it.

Here Here! Thirded. I've been wondering the same thing.

I agree with all of you on this one. Simply based on what is mostly written on the discussion boards, I cannot even imagine them getting an offer from a decent Business School.
And sometimes the questions are just too simple. I mean there are people who ask which Business School they should go to. DO YOUR RESEARCH YOURSELF. Ask for advice from others and thats everyone's right, but to actually expect that someone will tell you exactly what to do and how to do it is just being naive.

Oh yes, I keep on repeating this again and again: DO YOUR RESEARCH YOURSELF - before asking questions which then are much more qualified and interesting.
Thanks!!

It?s nice to see some of the active users complaining about the language we use or rather INDIANS use on this discussion Room.
I would like to give importance to the basic idea of the discussion Room, all we need is information as long as we can communicate and understand each other I think we should be fine.
If we all used full forms the web site will be called
WorldWideWeb.find-master's of Business Administration.commercialintent
Relax people it?s a discussion Room we need information. As you guys are there you are the best judge to the situation around you. It makes things a lot easier for us to trust you rather than the college and people of the institution, we need some one who can give us apt information than building the discussion, we need some to talk positive than complain, its naïve to see people asking what are the employers looking for, what are the universities that have good prospects.
We do the required research and then come up with a list of universities that we think are good, there is no one on this thread who did not do any research, you need to understand they got to this web site which by itself is a research. We need someone to confirm if we are on the right path and we are not making a wrong decision.
How did you guys get your MBA or are pursuing an MBA when you don?t know team building, team work, leadership I hope you understand the term HELP!

Hi Raphael
I understand your viewpoint, believe me. I'm not British, so I don't use the Queen's English. I'm not a very formal person, either. I'm an American from Los Angeles, so I do suffer from the occasional joking at the hands of my UK friends. But please understand my original note. I too, came to find-mba.com to get assistance and varied viewpoints and ideas regarding business schools. I found it a great help and would love to return the favor now and in the future. Only problem is, I have stumbled upon a few threads that have left me very confused. I can't entirely understand the meaning and have no way of contributing. I don't really care about proper grammar in informal settings. But there is a difference between casual writing and just plain bad English. I can honestly tell that some of the people writing on this site are sure to have a few troubles during classroom discussions and with coursework, based on what I've seen
I said nothing about Indians. Many of the Indians I've met in my programme write perfect English. Even Americans are guilty of their own common mistakes. I myself am just getting used to writing words like licence, privatise and programme.
Now I didn't initially bring this up, but as for some of the questions go, I've found myself answering the same questions over and over again. I did ask for others to compare certain elements of Cass and Aston during my application process. But now I'm starting to read questions like, "should I join this programme, or that programme?" That is just plain wrong. You should ask whether your short-listed programmes have certain resources you require, not whether you should attend. Every business school in the world, triple-accredited or not, is perfect for someone. It is up to that someone to make the determination.
Sorry for the speech. Just felt compelled to clarify.
Cheers (getting used to saying that as well)

Hi Kelly,
I was replying to all the posts on the site. No offence,
i just like to say that every one is interested in their own business at least in INDIA they don?t care about what you said to the last person or what you are going to say to the next person all they care is their thread. However i am sure this conversation between you and me should help every one understand the importance of the site and how useful every thread is.
Thanks mate how ever all most all the threads talk about Aston, Bradford and so on ..........no one talks about Manchester.
I would prefer working professionals to comment on the difference between MBA and Msc...........
What if a student does not get a seat in the AMBA accredited universities could he see other options like ASTON, Manchester, and Leeds for the Msc.
Cheers Mate,

Glad we got that cleared up...
Regarding Man Uni, the best way to see more discussion about it is to start a thread! You are sure to get some quick responses, as it's a well known institution. :)
Regarding MBA vs MSc: I think I fall within the "working professionals" category. I'm currently in New York, working in retail buying and financial planning for Macy's, the largest department store company in the country. I believe the perceived difference between the two programs is the focus. The MBA gives you a greater breadth of study and allows you to either rise in your given field, or move to a new one altogether. The MSc, in management, finance, planning, economics, etc, gives you specialized training in a specific field, giving you increased and higher-level instruction which you can then add to your expertise and experience in a given field.
I like to think that an MBA makes you a jack of all trades, while an MSc makes you a master of one.
I'm definitely open to other interpretations, as I always stand to gain from the insight of others.

Hmmm, if I've just looked at what I think you want me to look at I can only conclude you have a particularly low shock threshold. You posted a query about the merits of Manchester vs. Aston yesterday, right? And you've had no responses yet. Well, that's not so surprising - give people time and you'll get what you need. You should also use the search box to find older discussion threads about both. Aston particularly has received a lot of attention on here.
I'm with Kelly on the issue of language. No one is asking or expecting that everyone speak or write English with the same degree of accuracy or fluency - especially considering that so many people on here are using their second, third or fourth language. What is appreciated is people actually trying, and not just abrvtg evrtng - c? It's one thing to ask for help and advice - we're all happy to do a bit of work on someone's behalf - but it's another to make someone work hard just to understand a question. Especially if it's a lazy question. Finding this site does show some initiative, true, but it's not that hard, and nothing to feel too self-satisfied about. You might as well argue that finding the front door to LSE is pretty good going - hey, it shows some effort, at least - therefore they might just as well give one a degree.
And lastly - none of this has anything remotely related to any innate prejudice against INDIANS (although insisting ON capitalising it all the time is going to get on some peoples' NERVES, and suggests a rather NATIONALIST streak). We're all from all over the place here, we all travel the world, we all study with people from across the globe. Noone gives a damn.

I'd like to add, I don't pretend to write perfect English since I am no native speaker. But I make the effort to write whole words instead of 3 letters. It is easier and more pleasant to read. "cud" for could or similar is just sloppy - and my first feeling often is: No effort from the side of the writer, why should I make the effort to help out with information. In the end I always do of course... ;-)
But we all agree, it has nothing to do with Indian or not, and nothing to do with perfect English skills, but with effort. Right?
Greetings from Attiya

All of you make valid points and we all tend to agree on these. Thing is, apart from us there are loads of other users out there who just do not put in the effort. Just like Attiya said, alot of it just comes down to putting in effort before raising an issue or starting a new thread.
I mean all of us will agree on this that if someone started a thread like this:
"I want to do MBA. I have very good experience on the job and I now want to do MBA.
I want to do MBA in England and I want to do it on a budget. Tell me where I can go.... "
WE WOULD ALL GET ANNOYED, purely based on hows its written. The writer puts in no effort at all and just launches into a vague question.
I honestly think that is something that annoys us all, and if that could be fixed, the forums could become more informative and have really good indepth discussions.

If someone can't ask a coherent question they probably won't be very successful in a business career. Being a clear communicator is an essential management skill, I think. Work on it people!
Sadly, many of these people who can't write still got higher GMAT scores than I did :(
