Birmingham Masters

I've got an offer for an MSc in Marketing & MSc in Strategic Marketing & Consultancy for the September 2010 intake at the University of Birmingham. Now it basically comes down to me to decide which course I would like to opt for.

I know this board is mainly targeted for MBA students but I would really appreciate it if some one could help me out with my query.

I got a spot offer for both these courses during the Birmingham road show in India. Since i am a commerce graduate the university delegate who was present in India insisted me to go for the Strategic Marketing & Consultancy course rather that the Marketing course because the former is a more specialised course and the latter is pretty general and targets only the basics of marketing (which i am pretty well versed with being a commerce graduate).

When i was reading the course prospects i noticed that the MSc in Strategic Marketing & Consultancy has 2 consultancy projects which comprise a major part of the degree. Under the consultancy project the students have to work very closely with 2 companies (an SME or a major corporate) and prepare a consultancy project for them, but there are rumours out there that the 2 companies didn't come last year and the students were left hanging. As i mentioned earlier these might just be plain rumours as i've heard this from students who are studying in different universities and i am not sure how credible their source is. I tried looking for current students/alumni on facebook with no much success.

So i was basically looking for students who have done/are doing this course (MSc in Strategic Marketing & Consultancy) and i wanted to listen to their opinions. Is there anyone out here who could help me out with my query ? Any help would be appreciated.

I do not have experience with the university or programs that you mentioned. I do however have experience with a consulting project from my MBA program. The consulting project was one of our capstone courses and is among the best highlights of the program so far. Helping to analyze a current real world problem for a real client was a lot more fulfilling than other projects that I have done in my studies. In the end we got to present our findings to the client and receive immediate feedback. I would recommend the program that allows you to have the consulting projects IMHO.

Yes I totally agree. The consulting project should be a very good experience but i really need to make sure that the university conducts the projects before signing up. Btw where are you doing your MBA from ?
