i would say both are very equally good. Nottingham is a more repectable university but the business school is one or 2 inches not as good as aston mba.

birmmingham is fairly big so shortage of jobs and things to do and quite accessible to the rest of england due to its central location.

nottingham is not a nice town at all and constantly in the list of 10 worst places to live in the uk because of gun crime also known as capital of gun.

but you should be ok as the rest of the population there

As far as the crime rate is concerned you are quite right. but if i consider about last four years FT anking and other global ranking nottingham is there regularly, but aston is there in 2009 only. though ranking is not the only criteria to take in to consideration. but aston has advantage due to its location, tripple accreditation, strong industry link. what about the employability? is the crime is a factor for worryness for students? actualli i intend to bring my family with me, can it be a problem?

i may not have said it very clear. i mean the ranking of the business school as a whole of aston is better than nottingham. Does EIU rank aston? I cant remember on top of my head but they may do. And if i am not mistaken nottingham is never there.

For MBA i am not sure. But to be honest, have you considered Warwick and Lancaster both of whom i think are stronger but the fees are very similar. Lancaster is easier to get into and both of them have the global brand for a long while. if you see american ranking, Lancaster is there quite frequent. Durham/strath are also two very decent choices but i dont want to complicate your situation.

if you are very keen on these schools in terms of non-academic factors i may add.

Nottingham at the end of the day is safer than most other notrorious towns. in london for example some areas are awful. Nottingham has campus in china/malaysia so you can think of study there to reduce the tuition fees and living costs(you have family as well) while also experience another country.

Birmmingham is among the biggest cities in UK that means your dependants can look for jobs and it is safer and very cosmopolitant.

If i were you i would go for Aston but either choice is just as good.

i tell you what i know about employability.

First business schools are in business and they will do whatever they can to ensure the marketing/ranking look right. That also means that they will manipulate statistics. For example exclude those you cant find jobs and say that they are not looking for jobs. Many MBAs as you know already have a job. Also they include ppl go back to their country.

I would recommend you to get in touch with real alumni and find out then you have a better impression.

I know ppl been to Aston but only one has done the MBA. they doing alright but not spectecularly well.

I Know a few ppl in Nottingham including business school and they seem to be stronger students hence their stronger carrer but i also have to say that Nottingham as a university is stronger and more research-oriented so i tend to bump into more Nottingham PhDs or PhDs materials rather than usual students in Aston.

Debnath,

I am doing my MBA 08-09 from Nottingham. The city let me assure you is absolutely fine. The student lettings are quite close by and there are quite safe. As with any town in the UK, there are rough neighbourhoods that need to be avioded, The course has been fantastic (Academically) but the job prospects in the UK are difficult as it is with the rest of the world. This does not mean there are no jobs just that we are having to struggle harder.

If you want further information, talk to your MBA office point of contact and ask for my contact details. I will be glad to help you out.

Regards,
Niranjan
