Any disadvantage based on my background?

Dear all,

I am planning to apply an MBA course from one of the top 50 schools in the world based on FT MBA ranking, which is located in the Midlands. However, I am concerned if my ethnic background might put me at a disadvantage situation even I feel that I possess a slightly more diversified background.

Basically, I am born in Hong Kong, moved to Singapore when I was 6, received my education in one of the Russel Group universities in the UK and returned to Hong Kong to work. As of now, I have 4 years of work experience, of which 1 year is within the managerial position in my family-owned business. I will be applying for the 2016 entry, by then I will have 5 years of work experience, and my question is if I would be considered to be from China? I would not consider myself as a top applicant and would feel that I would be at a disadvantage competing directly against Chinese applicants, some of whom might be more academically sound but with a typical 'Chinese' background.

Cheers guys for your opinion in advance.

Do you have Singaporean permanent residency? I agree with you that your profile does not sound like you are a classic Chinese applicant. I don't think it should be a concern for you.

Unfortunately not... but I will mention about my background when I apply. Hopefully I can differentiate myself from the rest of the typical Chinese background, of course unless I faced candidates with similar background as mine.
