GMAT: General Question

davidra

Hi There,

I am David, I have decided to pursue my MBA. My background is below:
My bachelors is from an Indian University and I did my MS in Computer Engineering from USA where I had a GPA of 3.4. I worked in the US after my Masters for one of the top semiconductor companies for 4 years before deciding to return to India.
I am interested to do my MBA but I am not sure when I need to take up my GMAT.
Should I take up GMAT a year before I want to start my MBA?
Say for ex: I want to start my MBA during FALL 2018, should I take up the exam around August 2017?

Considering my background, will I get into a top university with a decent GMAT score?
What is the GMAT score I should be aiming to get top 10 universities?

Thanks
-David

The average at those schools will be around 730. You are part of a large group of Indian applicants in the tech industry, so you'll need to apply as early as possible and with a strong application. Yes, that will mean taking the GMAT in July or August and looking for 750 or higher. Take a look at http://find-mba.com/board/gmat/gmat-tiers-strong-schools-for-your-gmat-23247

Agreed that 750+ is a great target. You're in quite a competitive applicant pool, so you'll need all the ammunition you can get. I have a feeling that your international experience will be interesting for the adcoms but that will only take you so far.

I'd just take a practice test now and see where your weak points are and your ballpark score, and that will suggest what kind of time commitment you'll need for prep.
