I think he means your long-term goals, such as what industry or functional area you want to end up in.

Take a look at How to use LinkedIn to find the best school www.find-mba.com/board/33571

If you want to get into management consultancy, you'd be better off investing more (even if that means borrowing) to get into a ranked school.

Hi Duncan,

The thing is that i can't afford the heavy expenses of the best schools.

So if i am not planning for management consulting , is hull/loughborough fine?

That depends on your goals. Look on LInkedIn and see what sort of roles international students get.

But, seriously, Lougborough is 23k, while Durham is 25k and Birmingham is only 21k. So, there are much better schools at the same cost.

Hi Duncan,

Can you suggest me some more good schools considering my 8.6 years of engineering experience either in UK or Europe in an affordable budget

I did a quick search on Linkedin for MBAs working in management consultants based in the UK. Turns out that of course LBS is the top feeder school, but I'm guessing that's out of your range. But Cranfield and Warwick are in the top five, these may be worth looking into. Not as cheap as the programs you're looking at, but, over the long term, not too much more either.

I'm also looking at ways to break into consulting that would not require an arm and a leg. How realistic are Cranfield and Warwick for this kind of goal? And relatedly, are there other MBA programs in this range (in the UK) that would also be good entry points for consulting firms?

Considering that they're in the top five for the LinkedIn search results I mentioned, they would not be bad choices.

The big caveat is that they probably wouldn't be your best choices for the Big 5, but rather for smaller and more boutique-style consultancies.

If you're targeting the big five, you'd want to go to Insead, LBS, or maybe even Cambridge or Oxford.

You can search the board and get some good insight into these programmes. if you need a considered response from me, which would have to consider your goals, background and the real alternatives, then you can see my profile page for ways to work with me. Read the article linked on their about scholarships.
