Hi all,
I’m a US based physician interested in an MBA, preferably online. I’ve also considered an EMBA but timing and cost will be an issue. I have +15 yrs working experience including training. Been practicing as consultant/ attending for over 4 yrs. I don’t need an MBA to increase my salary but I just want to be knowledgeable and be prepared for my next leadership role. I can’t really take time out so the online is definitely attractive. I am not planning to change jobs so connection is not that important and we have other communities to network. I have not restricted myself to the US and I already have a pending admission from the Manchester Global MBA with a possibility of getting into the accelerated track. I’m also looking at the Warwick MBA. I’m paying out of pocket so cost is a real issue and many US MBAs are ridiculously expensive. Like I said, the MBA doesn’t impact my salary. As an aside, I have an interest in entrepreneurship and innovation. If there is an online MBA that has a mix of healthcare and innovation, that will be perfect.
If this question had been answered elsewhere, I apologize.
Thanks.

Have you checked out Johns Hopkins' online MBA? Their bschool is still relatively new compared to more established schools, but I am betting they are well connected in the healthcare industry.
Otherwise, if it is just a formal business education you're after, you can go with the best bang-for-the-buck online options like Boston U or UIUC which are in the 20+K range.

Thanks for your prompt response. I have looked into Hopkins online MBA but don’t want to spend that much on an MBA. LIke I mentioned, I don’t really need the connection. I will say I’m well connected with other colleagues via other societies. I’m looking into the BU program and UIUC program too. Will have to weigh that in comparison to the top UK programs if I do get in.

Boston and UIUC (which has an innovation specialization I think) are strong options, and I would look at UMass Isenberg too. Healthcare is so different in the UK, but the Manchester program is very good and has a comparatively good US network (especially around Miami, where it used to have a campus).
Looking at the US News online MBA in Healthcare list, the Wisconsin program jumps out as one with a very good design.
Also, maybe you don't need the full MBA? Look at the Maryland MBA Core, which is amazing value... Basically the whole core curriculum for under $2000.

Thanks Duncan for your insight. I like the UIUC with the specialization. I know it's not ranked by choice so not a big issue. I have already looked into the Wisconsin program and will keep on my shortlist. Would have been perfect if the UIUC program had some healthcare cores. The Maryland MBA Core is an option but will probably go with a full degree as my employer offers some tuition fee assistance.
Thanks as always for you insight on this forum.
