the variations between the rankings can be confusing sometimes. any recognized "benchmark" list? I assume it is FT. But is there any other list that also compares US and UK schools with schools in places like in China or Germany?

it's true. most lists ARE pretty lopsided in favour of U.S. programmes...but that is probably still a reflection of the reality. some of the rankings are more Euro-centred than others. there are also lists that focus on Asian programmes.
