MGSM vs UNSW - technology

I'd like to study in Sydney and have started looking into MBA programmes there. My focus would be on emergent technologies (AI, IoT), specifically. Any advice would be much appreciated. Cheers!

I'm not sure an MBA, or indeed any taught degree, will educate you a lot about emerging technologies.

What is your purpose for learning about emerging technologies? Is it to help with a specific career goal? Unless you want to be a Machine Learning/AI Engineer for example, then learning about technology in and of itself, won't help you much in your career.

Even many computer science degrees aren't very good for learning about emerging technology. I agree with Duncan that an MBA isn't much use here. Maybe think about doing a general MBA and top up with some short tech focused courses elsewhere?

Assuming you don't have a deep technical background and want to learn about how to apply technology in a business context, then first of all get a high level understanding of some of the key technologies. These will probably include machine learning, IoT, blockchain, data science and analytics and cloud computing. You could take out a subscription to LinkedInLearning for about $50 pm and that would give you access to thousands of videos and hundreds of courses. I've learnt a lot via LinkedIn over the last year on these types of topics.

You can look at some of the big MOOC platforms like EdX and Coursera where there are many courses on these topics. Be careful to find ones with recent content. Some AI courses for example are 3-4 years old which is ancient in this context.

Udacity is a step up where courses cost about $1200 upwards. There are some good looking courses designed for business leaders. E.g. AI for Business or Data Science for Business.

Finally, if you have an interest in AI in particular, then I'd recommend learning from the absolute best universities in the world as this is still a very leading edge subject. So places like Stanford, MIT, Cornell in the USA; Cambridge, UCL, Imperial in the UK etc. Deep Mind also do some renowned courses via Coursera.
