MBA with a BA in Sociology

Gonzalo_F

Given the not-so-great job opportunities for a Sociology graduate, I've often wondered about the possibilities of studying an MBA, considering also that I always enjoyed my economics classes (micro and macroeconomy, marketing, etc.). I do worry though that an MBA might a bit too far off from my background and I'll be missing some of the expected ground knowledge. Any thoughts regarding this? Thanks!

Most times, people don't work in the same field that they studied. I have a Bsc in sociology and I have forked in finance for the past 6 years. I plan on commencing my MBA this year (September). An MBA is not limited to a particular field of study. In fact, the amazing thing about MBA cohorts is that you will meet people from all walks of life and that includes engineers, bakers, consultants, financial analysts etc. The most important thing is having relevant work experience and being determined to make a positive impact in the business world (not minding the sector).
Also, thanks to my background in sociology, I have relevant understanding of the concepts of motivation, culture, change, personality and communication, and how these elements are pertinent to the sustenance and growth of an organisation. Having this knowledge is very useful in an MBA especially during projects and group discussions.

I studied theology and sociology for my BA. It certainly made me stand out in the pool of applicants.
