Manchester MBA program

Hi Duncan

I am in the process of applying for an MBA with AMBS and am a little nervous. I have no doubt its a good school but the FT rankings have been falling continuously for almost 3 years now. Is this something I should be worried about?

I think this mostly reflects external factors around the value of sterling and the UK labour market, as well as the rise of new (well, newer) MBA providers. What matters more are your career goals. If Alliance is the best school for your goals, then the ranking doesn't matter.

Thanks Duncan for that response, I was just trying to make sure I didn’t miss any obvious red flags! I have done my research and am happy with the project based experiential and practical approach.

Thanks again!

Well, of course, the school is now in the new building and they have hired some amazing faculty. So current students have a much better environment. But, to be honest, I feel sorry for the students who had the disruption of the last few years while the main building was hollowed out.

Hi Duncan, I am a chemistry PHD and have worked as a research chemist in Hong Kong for eight years. I also have some working experience in China, Taiwan and Swiss. I would like to apply Manchester MBA and see whether I can find a marketing/ business development/ general management role in UK after graduation. I had my first GMAT and got only 610. I will probably take GMAT again after two months for more preparation. Do you think I should apply it now? Or wait until my next GMAT? Thanks.

Apply now. MBA is already starting the fifth round of admissions: https://find-mba.com/news/2019/10/application-deadlines-mba-programs-in-the-uk-ireland-beginning-in-fall-2020 It gets harder after every round. If you wait two months you'll be in round 7 or 8.

Thank you! I will apply as soon as possible. Guess I will apply for other programmes as well, concerning the difficulty in later rounds.
My only concern for AMBS is the the employment rate 3 months after graduation, less than 80%. I am not sure that was just a bad year or there is another reason behind.

No, I think that it pretty consistent. It reflects the way MBS is a school for transition rather than progression.

Odd question to ask on a thread about Manchester.

The MIT-Zaragoza degree is the obvious choice for someone with your experience.
