ESCP MBA Vs Uni. of Edinburgh Business School MBA

pk2022

Hello all,

I am an Indian with 7 years of experience and see myself working in Management/Strategy Consulting domain. I have an affinity towards working in Product development/management as well.

Would like to hear your comparative on ESCP MBA and Uni. of Edinburgh Business School MBA (Not Heriot Watt) along with following quick questions:

1. How do these both courses stand in the market?
2. Is ESCP MBA (if completed from London & Madrid campus) recognised around the world by the market in the form of job opportunities offered...specifically outside France & Germany?
3. Do these institutions provide any specialization such as MBA in Strategy Mgt. or Operations Mgt. etc.?

After completing the MBA, I wish to work either at the same location as my studies or across the globe for at least 4-5 years.

Insights on avg. salary packages for both universities and the current status, are welcome as well.

Looking forward.

Thanks!

I don't think ESCP is well known outside France as an MBA provider. You will need to speak the local language in any country to access most MBA level jobs.

Escp is a very small school.the campus in central paris is tiny. It is of course of very very high quality in teaching and research.

@stuart...ok.

My rudimentary knowledge about MBA course rankings says that, ESCP is ranked in FT and QS rankings in top 60 whereas UEBS is not even ranked in FT rankings in top 100. The other parameter says, ESCP has 2 accreditations EQUIS and AACSB whereas UEBS has an addl one i.e. AMBA.

Can you please throw some light on these aspects and whether these should affect the decision?

Also would like to hear you on UEBS MBA.

Thanks in advance.

You are mistaken. UEBS has triple accreditation - see the logos in their website footer.

Europe has profoundly national labour markets. So the key thing is to focus on the countries you want to work in and then focus on the best schools in that country for your chosen industry and role.

If you know what the initials ESCP stand for, you will understand that it is the oldest French business school and a big brand in French-speaking Europe. It's a minor presence in the post-experience market in other countries. On the other hand, Edinburgh is a famous, ancient, full-service university ranked in the top 20 worldwide. Its business school is successful almost despite itself; the reputation of the university attracts high quality students, faculty and employers.

On the FT rankings: for data sufficiency reasons, small programmes drop in and out of the rankings from year to year if they don't get more than 30 responses. Edinburgh is not in the 2022 FT ranking; ESCP was not in the 2021 ranking. This is not the main criterion for selecting an MBA.

ESCP is a much stronger business school in the francophone world than Edinburgh is in the UK business school scene, but to work in the UK or the English-speaking world then Edinburgh has a huge brand equity advantage and a massive alumni network. If you were a top-flight academic, it would be a no-brainer to work at Edinburgh rather than ESCP. If you compare where their PhD students end up, again there is no comparison. Edinburgh is one of several UK business schools with a world-class research environment: you just cannot say that about any of the business schools in the grandes ecoles system.

Hi Duncan,
Thanks alot for your guidance....it is certainly helpful.
By additional one I meant the third accreditation along with EQUIS and AACSB. So, yes...I am aware that UEBS is triple accredited.
Can you please provide some insights on GMAT cutoff for UEBS and avg salary package at UEBS as well?
Can UEBS MBAs get into MBB or Big4s easily for consulting roles?

Few European MBAs have cutoffs; the's an Indian thing. Avergaes and salary date are available online. Use LinkedIn to see placement but, no, in the UK MBB recruits MBAs from LBS, Insead, Wharton and Oxbridge. These are also *tiny* firms -- maybe 300 to 400 UK MBAs in total.
