UC3M vs. GGSB

JCGB

Hello All!
I need some help!
I am accepted to UC3M (Master in Finance) and GGSM for the (MIB) and I have no Idea which school to choose. To myself I have 3 years pre- university work experience. Mainly, I worked for the finance industry. My future goal is working for as asset manager or consultant agency. I graduated at a famous German university and did my Erasmus- year at the Warwick Business School. (I do not like Warwick and I do not want to study in the UK again. Furthermore, I would like to have great time during my studies. According to the HR-Department of my former employer (leading Bank in Germany with a blue emblem) they do not care about FT Ranking.

Can somebody recommend the MIB? It is not very common in the Germany and I think the MSc is better known. What do you think about the UC3M? Thanks for your help!

Well, I think different people in the HR departments of German banks might have different options. For example, I studied at London Business School, which Deutsche Bank has a huge hiring relationship with. Anshu Jain spoke at my graduation, and I know that bank also hires huge numbers of MBAs from NYU, Columbia, Wharton, Chicago, Harvard and INSEAD. There's no lower-ranked school it hires more MBAs from, so I think that whatever the HR people say, the schools its hires from are highly ranked, whether or not they know it.

DB also hires more people from Carlos III than from Grenoble, and that reflects UC3's strong quant reputation. Given the choice between then, I would go there. But I also suggest you look for a MSc in finance from a school with a higher average starting salary.

Agree. Maybe look into the ESCP program? Otherwise, I might recommend some of the UK ones - Cass, Imperial, etc. but it sounds like you don't want to go to the UK.

Are you planning on staying in Germany? Maybe check out programs in the country: WHU - Otto Beisheim offers a masters in management, as does HHL Leipzig. These programs require the bare minimum in terms of work experience - 5 and 3 months, respectively.

Hi Duncan, hi Ezra,

Many thanks for your posts. I agree that LBS,NYU, WHU... and the" whatever university" have got a stronger reputation than UC3M and in the end a higher starting salary.

Due to the fact that I just want to study in an international Mediterranean environment with a high quality of life, I chose UC3M. I guess I will work for the next 35 years in an office in Frankfurt or Munich so that is probably the last chance living in Spain.

Kind regards,

JCGB

I would also look at EDHEC in Nice, ESCP in Turin and Bocconi in Milan.
