Reputation of EBS (European Business School)

Hi All !!

Can anybody please guide me regarding the reputation of EBS (European Business School) in Frankfurt ? After detailed research, I have found the school's course curriculum to be different from other MBAs. Also, can anybody throw somelight on its placements ?

Hi there,

I don't want to disappoint you, but I would take a closer look at this school because of the following reasons:

- They are not internationally accredited yet and failed in the EQUIS accreditation process two times.
- They do not appear in any international ranking.
- They had severe problems in entering the MBA market and their classes are still very small and can only be filled with scholarships (see e.g. the coverage on mba-channel.com).
- In Germany, they have the image of show-offs.
- Be aware of the fact that the school is NOT located directly in Frankfurt, but approx. 50 miles away in a rural area. You'll find good vine there, but not the large companies.

Best,
JL

Hi JL...

Thanks for your feedback. But there are some major points which are genuine about this college :
1) It is the oldest state accredited university in Germany.
2) It is having 150 partner schools on their list.
3) Their faculty majorly comprises of Ph.Ds.
4) Their MBA (full time) was started in 2008. May be thats the reason that to start with they are having a small batch.
5) They have 200 leading corporate partners listed on their website.

Anyways, thanks again for your reply.

Can you throw some light regarding job prospects in Germany after full time MBA, if one is having 4-5 years of work experience in engineering sector & a good command in German language ?

Regards
VM

Hi Vikram,

Thank you very much for your annotations. Allow me to comment them:

1) It is the oldest state accredited university in Germany.
It is the oldest private German university for business!!!
Since the German university system is dominated by public institutions, this is nothing special. And compared with Mannheim, Frankfurt, or HHL, EBS is very young.

2) It is having 150 partner schools on their list.
This is also not very remarkable. It is the standard for any German university.

3) Their faculty majorly comprises of Ph.Ds.
This is also normal for Germany. In the renowned German MBA programs, you won't find many faculty members without PhD.

4) Their MBA (full time) was started in 2008. May be thats the reason that to start with they are having a small batch.
This is not an explanation. When you look at Goethe Frankfurt they launched their program in 2009 with more than 30 students.

5) They have 200 leading corporate partners listed on their website.
As I already mentioned regarding the partner schools, this should be a normal number for any good German business school.

Can you throw some light regarding job prospects in Germany after full time MBA, if one is having 4-5 years of work experience in engineering sector & a good command in German language ?
First of all, Germany has not been that much affected by the crisis as the US or the UK. That means, job opportunities should be much better there at the moment. German companies are looking for excellently educated talent, especially engineers. However, a very good command of German is a must in nearly companies, especially the SMEs (the so called backbone of the German economy)!

hey vikram, just a few notes to your points:

regarding point 1: although it is good for a school to be recognized by the state, this wont help it be recognized by recruiters world wide, and you don't want to limit yourself to Germany, do you?
and also, i think whats really accredited there is the university itself, and not the MBA program.
regarding point 2: this is all good and nice, but don't think that if a school has good partner schools, it says something about their rep or quality.
regarding point 3: i don't believe that it matters if a school has lots of Ph.Ds working for it - it maybe says something about research quality, but it can also mean that there is less emphasis on real life cases and experience. would you prefer a Ph.d that never worked in a big company, to a manager that has an mba and 2 years of work experience.

just my two cents.....

Hiya,

EBS is quite high up on the ranking list - in fact it is considered the best in Germany.
