How good is the European University in Barcelona as well as the one in Munich? Is it worth the investment for an MBA?

I've never heard of them and that is not a good sign.

I've heard of them and saw them at a couple of MBA fairs, but they never get a mention in discussions of good MBA schools.
I also tend not to trust schools with such generic titles. Maybe it is sponsored by the European commission, but does that just make it a white elephant? I did have a look at the website and it is very evasive on its actual status, accreditation etc. Lists instead membership rather than accreditation. No ranking information. The list of advisory board members is not very impressive.

Johnny, yes i dont think many would have heard about the name
Thanks for the reply Jamie...I thought about it too. But the name "European" did throw me off guard and initially i assumed it to be a good one too. Thats why i just wanted to confirm.

The European University (EU, www.euruni.edu) is an ACBSP accredited multi-campus private university, established in 1973, with headquarters in Switzerland. It operates campuses in Switzerland (Geneva and Montreux), Spain (Barcelona), and Germany (Munich), with an executive facility in Yvorne, Switzerland.
ACBSP (Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs) is a US accreditation agency that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA, www.chea.org).

I have a couple of friends who graduated there and they are deff. happy with what they´ve got.
Further, from what I understand, the school is actively undergoing accreditation processes and currently their diplomas are recognized in Europe, Russia and the US.
What do you want to study?

That's exactly what I read 5 years ago. Looks like the accreditation processes will take forever.

In Europe, European University has achieved IQA Accreditation from CEEMAN. It is also accredited by the ACBSP and IACBE - both US Recognised accreditors.

I'm in the process of applying there. It does show that it is accredited. Have you heard anything else since the last post? Is it a decent school/facilities?
Do you know anyone who has attended? What is the current environment like in Spain?

Well no need for sarcasm. Are there different types of accreditation?
Advice would be greatly appreciated

Look for AACSB, AMBA or Equis accreditations. Others aren't relevant.

So none of these are relevant? Have you personally heard about European Univ at all?

Yes, I read some articles about that school. If you want to have a good year in Barcelona, it might ok, but career-wise there are much better options.
By the way, Gaddafi's son Saif al-Arab who was killed in Libya last month, studied at European University in Munich.

If this school was really accredited by a CHEA body then it would show up at http://www.chea.org/search/actionInst.asp and it does not. Don't go anywhere near it. read the other comments on other boards.

Perhaps you didn't do the search properly. You can find them listed on the CHEA website and they appear under two separate accrediting bodies, i.e. ACBSP and IACBE.

Well, if you go to http://www.chea.org/search/search.asp and type in "European" (using the default options; Any country, Any accreditor) then you get the CEU and the European Academy of Cosmetology.
The European University is an educational member, but not an accredited member of the IACBE http://iacbe.org
ACBSP accreditation is the easiest to get, so I am sure European University has that. However, it's not clear to me that European University's diploma is legal in Spain. It's not listed on the Spanish government's director or recognised universities in Spain www.educacion.gob.es while other private universities, including the Universidad Europea de Madrid (no relations to the European University) is.
Since it lacks accreditation by any of the three rigourous bodies (AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS), appears in none of the serious rankings, has a terrible reputation on this and other discussion boards, I don't see why anyone would go there if they could get into any state-recognised university.

You initially indicated that they do not appear on the CHEA website directory. I was pointing out that they do. That's all. Technically speaking, their programs are accredited by ACBSP in Switzerland, Spain, and Germany; and by IACBE in Switzerland. They also received the IQA accreditation from CEEMAN for their campuses in Switzerland, Spain and Germany. AACSB may be regarded as a "Gold" standard in terms of programmatic accreditation, but this doesn't mean that ACBSP or IACBE for that matter has any lesser standards in their accreditation process. The focus of the 3 accreditors are different : AACSB is geared more towards research, ACBSP concentrates on teaching, while IACBE is outcome based.

Matt, if we agree that AACSB is the "Gold standard" than you mus admit that "Silver" and "Bronze" go to AMBA and EQUIS. Those are the three standards which form the "triple crown".
ACBSP and IACBE *absolutely* have lower standards than AACSB. ACBSP and IACBE have the same founder. John L. Green. Look at the sort of schools they accredit: http://wwww.iacbe.org/member-status.asp They are, quite obviously, the accreditation of choice for schools which cannot get any of the three major accreditations.
