Are there MBAs in Fast Moving Consumer Goods?

Jawahar N

Just a quick question:

Does anybody know of any MBA programs in Europe that have specialized curriculum in fast-moving consumer goods?

Here in India, this is becoming a big industry - but there don't seem to be many MBA programs that cover it.

I'm considering applying to IMD and INSEAD - but they only have a few electives that are more general (classes in supply chain management or retail operations.)

I don't think that a programme with such a narrow focus would attract the kind of talent FMCG companies need. They recruit from broader based programmes in marketing, supply chain and general management.

Agreed. Both IMD and INSEAD would both be good choices. IMD places a good number of grads into consumer goods and retail roles; INSEAD places fewer but has some related curriculum as well as a student club.

Otherwise, you could consider staying in India: many ISB graduates go into fast-moving consumer goods or supply chain positions.

Thanks. I think I will apply to IMD and INSEAD. What about these schools, compared to ones in Germany, like HHL Leipzig or Mannheim. They seem like good values.

Ralph, ISB is a good suggestion but employers here put a high value on international education.

If you don't have FMCG experience in the country you are targetting, then look for a programme with an internship in the middle.

Good point, Duncan. I read somewhere that a big proportion of MBA students at SP Jain do internships in FMCG firms.

Have you also considered an MBA in China? CEIBS, for example, is well-regarded by employers in India - and gives you the opportunity to do a summer internship. And being close to the country's large and supply chains could give you more leverage in the FMCG industry.

Just wanted to thank everybody for their help. I ended up applying to CEIBS and INSEAD - no word back from CEIBS but I'm interviewing at INSEAD!
