MBA in Mexico

Hi Denise,
the problem is that the company I work for now, will never finance my MBA, not even participate a bit.
Anyways I want to change and find a new, more interesting job. The MBA could open some doors...

I will check out the websites of the schools to see what sponsorship possibilities they have - and let you know!

Hello Lucho,
I considered going for an MBA in Mexico, here a list of the ones I heard that were good (be careful with the city, there are several EGADES and IPADES):
-EGADE Monterrey
-IPADE (don´t remember which)
-ITAM (Mexico City)
But this is all from the internet, I don't know anyone who has personal experience. About tuitions I did no research, sorry, you should find out yourself.
Hope that helps!

Hey Kata,

I am from Mexico, currently studying an MBA in Puebla. Best programs in the country are ITESM Tec de Monterrey, Monterrey campus; Universidad de Las Americas, Puebla; ITAM, Mexico city; ITESM Guadalajara campus isn't so bad.

Now, living in Mexico city can be a real challenge if you're not used to the "fast life", pollution, etc. Monterrey is a very dynamic city but has terrible climate--too hot in the summer, too cold in winter. Guadalajara is a beautiful city but the program there is not as good as in Monterrey.
Puebla is the fourth largest city, an hour away from DF, and close to coast lines--acapulco, veracruz, etc. I'm having a good time at UDLA because student body is very diverse, from all over the world. MBA here is good. check out the website.

hope this helps!

Hello Carina!
Thanks for sharing, that's nice.

Can you tell me, is ITESM and EGADE the same?
And IPADE, is that not so good? I thought it was, Kata says that in her post.

About your warning, "fast life", that made me smile... You know, I am from Columbia, and used to some heavy stuff as well :)
Or don't you think?

Hi Carina,

I didn't come across the MBA you are doing. It sounds good, can you tell me more? How is the international reputation, or lets say, the reputation in latin American business world?
Are courses in English?

EGADE and ITESM are the same.. EGADE is the name of ITESM´s business school (is the best one!)
Ipade has a very important shortcome... the admission test is your wallet.. no GMAT or PEAP exam needed....

Hi dsm, that's interesting... so IPADE must not attract the best students, but the ones without fiancial problems. I find it a bit scary that they don't ask for GMAT!
But maybe they have some other tought admission exam? Some of the best US business schools don't ask for GMAT but you'll have to be prepared better than for the GMAT.

How is the interest of potential employers, international companies, for MBA degree holders of EGADE and IPADE?

hello, yes they have their own exam, (dont know the name)...but the admission process it not clear.... in other words onyone who has the money to pay can enter....
about potential international employers, just do the maths... aprox 60-65% of EGADE MBAs students are international.... and Ipade only has an 8-10%....... (you can see this numbers at EIU and WSJ mba rankings), thus, you can see the international impact of EGADE MBA at companies globally

Only 8-10% of international students - that tells everything about the international appeal of IPADE. I know this phenomenon from SPanish schools, first I found several prgorams that looked good, but to get a real picture it was very important to learn about the percentage of international (and in this case non latin american) students.
Probably IPADE not the best option for foreign student, unles their goal would be to learn/improve Spanish language skills, and discover Mexican culture meaning mingle with local rich kids ;-)

Thanks for the info! Did you do your MBA in Mexico, or are you planning it?

hello, yes i had the opportunity to do my mba at EGADE (in guadalajara 70% and monterrey 30%) i also had the chance to take some of my electives classes at NYU in new york (exchange programme with EGADE) it was a great experience for me... trully a very global perspective.
about ipade i checked the programme, also went to a demo class... but no relations with corporate businesses, no international curriculum and alumni ......
i hope this info can be helpful with your research
regards

forgot to tell you... Egade and Ipade mba cost almost the same, about 2,000 to 3,000 USD difference

hello pisai
my recomendation absolutely goes to EGADE (ITESM) at Monterrey campus check the mba website:
http://cmportal.itesm.mx/wps/portal/egadeInicio/?New_WCM_Context=http://cmpublish.itesm.mx/wps/wcm/connect/EGADE/Inicio/Programas+Acad%C3%A9micos/Maestr%C3%ADas/GBS+Introducci%C3%B3n+EGADE+MTY
it is by far the best mba in latinamerica, it has a trully global program, also gives you a double degree (EGADE-Belk College at The University of North Carolina)
if i had the opportunity to study an mba again, i definitively choose this program
regards

Hi Pisai,
Your Indian friends looking for an MBA in Mexico can apply to any program there which is held in English, unless they speak Spanish, in that case, to all..

Neglecting Visa questions (I don't have the slightest idea about Mexican immigration laws for Indians), the obstacles for Indian applicants can either be costs, since the MBA student has to bear tuition and living costs during studies, or qualification. What is the GMAT, GPR etc of the applicants?

Besides, I share dsm's opinion about EGADE, but there are other good schools offering an MBA in English such as ITAM.

I am aplying to IPADE and I think you dont know what you are talking about, they only accept 1 of every 8 people and the test I took is different than GMAT but more focuse on abilities and skills. Also as far as I know 9 of every 10 student had scholarships or financial aid, I think the difference is the opposite other MBAS in mexico accept everyone who can pay for it, not IPADE, and they evaluate everyone as equal they dont accept people only because they are internacional, they need a profile. Algo IPADE is the only latin American school that appears in rankings, also in Financial Times is wold´s number 1 in career progress.
