I was planning to apply to bschools in Canada, but my admission counsellor has just told me that All universities in Canada only hire graduates whi have completed 4 yr undergrad .
Is this true? I graduated in India in 2007 with a 3 yr B.Com degree. So, if that were the case, would I be better off not aplying to universities in Canada & instead apply elsewhere?

Please tell your admissions counsellor about a top-secret resource available only to elite admissions advisors. It's called the internet: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=MBA+admissions+%22three+year+degree%22+site%3A.ca&oq=MBA+admissions+%22three+year+degree%22+site%3A.ca&aqs=chrome..69i57.11471j0j7&sourceid=chrome&espv=210&es_sm=91&ie=UTF-8
PS Sorry for the sarcasm but, seriously, can neither of you use Google?

Dear Duncan,
Thanks for the link posted above. A fact that I missed out to say here .... my counselor does know how to work around the internet ;) !
I was told about a PG diploma course to make up for the 1 year as per the 4 yr undergrad requirements of Canadian universities. However, I find this unnecessary & impractical as the MBA itself would be expensive, adding to that a 1/2 yr diploma.
Are there universities that do offer entry into MBA with 3 yr degree?

If you know how to use the internet, then why do you think three year graduates cannot get into any Canadian MBAs?
For example, the first link on the google results says:
"Applicants who hold a 3-year bachelors degree from institutions that have received a CGPA average of 3.01-4.00 or A by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), or Institutes of Management Technology (IMTs) may be considered for admission to a master?s program, subject to the admission requirements of the program." - carleton
The Lakehead site says "For the Master of Business Administration program:
(a) four year degree or three year degree plus five additional full-course equivalents"
The Athabaska site linked says "Applicants with a three-year degree, if accepted, will normally be required to successfully complete qualifying senior undergraduate courses in the discipline."
... and so on.
PS Sorry to sound like I am telling you off... I don't understand why you are not able to read through those pages and see the policies of the different schools? Clearly the first school does accespt certain Inidan three year degrees, and two of the other top results are open to three-year graduates but they will need to take some additional classes first.

I guess its my choice of Universities then
Im not planning to apply to colleges such as Carleton / Athabasca / Lakehead.... Im only looking into the Top 10 in canada, either they require a 4 yr degree or 3yr plus additional diploma.

So, if you know that those ten schools require an additional diploma then what are your preferred options?
Posted Dec 15, 2013 15:27
This was my initial question ;-) & it seems like I don't have many options. If Canadian bschools require a compulsory 4 yr degree , then Canada's no longer on my list. I did contact Ryerson though & they've stated they are willing to accomodate a 3 yr degree on "case by case " basis.
Is this the same with UK / USA ?

Google is your friend. I need to focus my time here, so if people have questions can can be easily answered with Google, all I have time to do is try to shame people into doing the work.

hey brother i am in the same boat as you are, that is 15 years of education, the canadian business schools that accept our qualification are rotman, schulic and university of british columbia there are 4 or 5 other schools who also that accept 3 year bachelors but the ones i have mentioned are the best. apart from these i had a chat with admissions officer of ivey he said they accept it on case to case basis, i am also applying to b schools for sep 14 intake but my finances are limited so looking at cheaper options. do let me know if you find out any thing else

dear mr duncan,
there are a lot of canadian business schools, which mention on their website that they need a four years bachelors but when contacted individually say that they will consider a three years bachelor hence google is not very helpful, that's why applicants
ask you the same question over and over. the same info is avalible with the consultants but they charge heavily

I appreciate how frustrating that must be but, in the limited time I have, all I can suggest is that people who don't want to hire assistance focus on the schools which don't say that they need a four-year degree.

well said sir, a few months back i was asking you the same question that this fellow was, and you gave a hyperlink to google. At first I was agitated but over a period of time I have found out quite a lot, will definitely post all the details such as what all canadian schools accept 15 years of Indian education and if there is a catch involved. So that people stop bugging you with the same question and you can better utilize your precious time, but i will do all this after I accept an offer letter.
