Hi,
Which school is better for a consulting career - Kellogg or Columbia?
Kellogg is ranked higher by BusinessWeek, and Columbia is higher in the Financial Times.
I am working in retail management and want to shift into consulting in the industry. I have some interest in luxury management, so I've been really interested in the Columbia MBA, because there is some luxury curriculum there. However, I have heard that with Kellogg, I would have a better chance for a bigger salary.

Well, Find-MBA's listing puts Columbia ahead: http://www.find-mba.com/specializations/56/consulting I believe those lists are based on which schools place the most people into those sectors. I'd also suggest using this approach: How to use LinkedIn to find the best school www.find-mba.com/board/33571
That said, I have to point out that generally someone can *either* have a high salary *or* they can work in the luxury sector. Luxury and fashion have huge numbers of talented people prepared to greatly discount their earnings.

Understood. In fact, I was just looking at some of the luxury consulting firms, and it doesn't seem like there's really anything with the same caliber as something like McKinsey or Deloitte - so I think I'll stick to management consulting.

According to me Kellogg as it is been ranked 5 by US News and World Report, 3rd by Business Week, 19th by Financial Times ,The 12-month program at Northwestern focuses on core courses during the summer and electives during the following year. The program is tailored for students who possess an undergraduate or graduate degree in business. And the fee for 1 yr MBA Program is $58,580.So if you find that the fees is affordable then you may opt for it.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to apply for round 2 at Kellogg, but for the 2 year program, as I would like to do an internship. I'm shifting my focus away from the luxury sector though, and I'd like to eventually work in a more general consulting role.
